TITLE OF INVENTION
Adhesive incorporating non-biodegradable cellulosic waste
PREAMBLE TO THE DESCRIPTION
COMPLETE
Following specification particularly describes the invention and the manner in which it is to be performed. DESCRIPTION
Technical field of invention:
[001] Present invention in general relates to an adhesive which contains non - biodegradable cellulosic waste like degrading cigarette filter (butts), solvent like acetone for degradation and some additives for enhancement of property of the adhesive.
Prior art:
[002] With the advent of throw-away products, the final disposal of such products has become a problem to which considerable attention need be given.
[003] Every year over 6 trillion cigarettes are manufactured globally. Approximately 99 percent have a filter tip. After the cigarette is smoked, the used filter is called a butt and is thrown out. When littered, cigarette butts often take years to break down.
[004] Most filters are made using cellulose acetate fibers. More than 2 billion pounds of cellulose acetate is produced every year to meet the world demand for filters. To make it, acetic anhydride is added to cellulose fibers made from wood or cotton. The reaction creates a type of plastic that provides a stronger, more rigid filter .Whatever their direct health impact on or benefit to smokers, cigarette filters pose a serious litter and toxic waste disposal problem. Cellulose acetate is photodegradable but not bio-degradable. Although ultraviolet rays from the sun will eventually break the filter into smaller pieces under ideal environmental conditions, the source material never disappears; it essentially becomes diluted in water or soil. [005] While the environmental impact of a single disposed cigarette filter is minimal, there were 1.35 trillion filtered cigarettes manufactured in the United States in 2007 and of these, more than 360 billion were consumed. About 680,000 tons of cellulose acetate was used in the production of these filtered cigarettes. With 5.6 trillion filtered cigarettes consumed worldwide in 2002 and nine trillion expected by 2025, the global environmental burden of cigarette filters is also significant. It is estimated that 1.69 billion pounds (845,000 tons) of butts wind up as litter worldwide per year.
[006] Most attention has been given to the cigarette butt waste problem because of the filters that end up on beaches. The annual Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) reports that‘cigarette butts have been the single most recovered item since collections began’.
[007] Although various attempts are made before, for providing various means for recovery of cigarette butts from surroundings, but disposal and recycling of these butts is a serious issue which is still mostly not catered. Cigarette butts has been used and recycled in numerous ways but not as adhesives; it possess some properties of adhesion which can encounter the properties of industrial glue or synthetic adhesives.
[008] Attempts are made for preparing the adhesive from various waste products but not cigarette butts, therefore some of the related method for the preparation of adhesive are discussed below.
[009] CN103275652A discloses method for preparing adhesive by taking waste polystyrene foam and wood powder as raw materials. The method is characterized by comprising the following steps: selecting and mixing the raw materials, regulating pH value, reacting for 4-7 hours at the temperature of 30-35DEG C, to obtain the biomass-based adhesive which comprises the following compositions: cellulosic ethanol lignin, laccase, tween 80, talc powder, water and an acetic acid-sodium acetate buffer solution.
[0011] CN104628970B discloses a method for preparing industrial gelatin skin collagen hydrolyzate group waste paper sizing agent. A method for preparing industrial gelatin skin collagen hydrolyzate group waste paper sizing agent, industrial gelatin dissolved in distilled water, and adding the enzyme hydrolysis reaction of the collagen hydrolyzate; acid anhydride species dissolved in distilled water, dropwise to the resulting collagen hydrolyzate, pre-modified collagen, collagen prepared by reacting an acid anhydride ester; was added a mixture of soft monomers and hard monomers in the resulting collagen anhydride ester, initiator added dropwise, with hard monomer and soft monomer anhydride graft- modified collagen ester, prepared by reacting the collagen-yl white paper sizing agent emulsion of the present invention to achieve a novel paper sizing agent based on gelatin waste paper industry collagen hydrolyzate synthesis, i.e. two kinds of pre-modified collagen ester monomers are grafted anhydride.
[0012] CN102516909A disclose preparation method of pulping waste liquid adhesive. The invention provides a preparation method of a pulping waste liquid adhesive and belongs to the technical field of adhesives. The preparation method comprises the following steps of: firstly carrying out phenolic modification on pulping waste liquid at a temperature of 90-140 DEG C under the action of a basic catalyst and phenol by adopting a normal-pressure or high-pressure heating method; and then adding aldehyde and the basic catalyst into the pulping waste liquid subjected to the phenolic modification, reacting for 1.0-3.0 hours at a temperature of 55-70 DEG C under the condition of continuous agitation, adding urea accounting for 0.2-2.0 percent of the total weight of the phenol, aldehyde and the pulping waste liquid, raising the temperature to 80-95 DEG C, continuously reacting for 0.5-3.0 hours, stop heating when the viscosity conforms to the requirements, cooling to below 40 DEG C and discharging. The invention has the beneficial effects that compared with a traditional phenolic resin adhesive, the prepared adhesive has the characteristics of lower production cost, low free phenol and free aldehyde content and environment friendliness; and in the preparation method, the pulping waste liquid is fully utilized, the pollution caused by the waste liquid to the environment is solved, and the resource utilization of the pulping waste liquid is realized.
