Abstract

The present invention relates to a wall mounted electric vehicle charging cabinet and suitable for home use, said cabinet comprises means for manually winding the charging cable inside the cabinet so that a door closure does not occur. is not essential. The fully wound cable can not be seen in the normal line of sight. In order to facilitate cable winding in poor lighting conditions, the cable entry slots are provided with illumination radiating from the slots.

Description

A cable storage system for an Electric Vehicle charger cabinet
Description
The present invention relates to an Electric Vehicle charging system suitable for domestic use. The wall mounted charger cabinet is provided with a number of slots around its periphery that are arranged in such a manner that the charging cable can be wound in them. The slots are arranged to have automatically operating covers that hide the wound in cable from vision in normal sight lines. In order to make winding the cable in to the cabinet slots in poor lighting conditions easier, illumination is arranged to radiate from the said slots. In order that the invention may be better understood reference will now be made to the attached figures where:
Fig # 1 shows a perspective view of the cabinet showing the front, top and left-hand side.
Fig # 2 shows a perspective view of the cabinet showing the front, left-hand side and top with the top door removed.
Fig # 3 shows a perspective view of the cabinet with the front panel removed and showing the front, right-hand side and bottom.
Fig # 4 shows a vertical front to back section through the centre of the cabinet. Fig # 5 shows a horizontal front to back section through the lower part of the cabinet.
A description of the invention will be explained with reference to the attached figures. The equipment comprises a charger cabinet with storage means for the vehicle plug (11) and the associated charging connection cable (12). The charger cabinet has a bottom (4), a left side (3), a right side (5), a back (6) and a top door
(2). The charger cabinet comprises a front panel (1) with charge indicators (9) mounted through the front panel (1). Behind the front panel (1) is a slot (10) for winding the vehicle charging cable (12) in to. The slot (10) is at least wide enough to accommodate one diameter of vehicle charging cable (12). The vehicle charging cable (12) is fed from a control system in to the central part of the guide former (20), the vehicle charging cable (12) is arranged to exit the guide former (20) at (19), an opening in the guide former (20). The opening in the guide former (20) is arranged such that the vehicle charger cable (12) can be wound clockwise or anticlockwise on the guide former (20). The vehicle plug (11) is attached to the free end of the vehicle charging cable (12), this vehicle plug (11) is housed under the top door (2). When the vehicle cable (12) is fully unwound it can be wound on to the guide former (20) in a clockwise or anti-clockwise direction and the vehicle plug (11) can be placed in a receiving cavity under the top door (2) when the vehicle charging cable (12) is fully wound on the guide former (20). The top door (2) is hinged (13) at the rear and has physical retention in the open and in the closed positions, when in the closed position it rests on a closed buffer (14).
Set in the sides of at least one slot for the charging cable (10) are at least one cover for the cable (7), these are constructed from a flexible material that allows the vehicle charger cable (12) to pass by, after which they revert to their normal static position where they block the normal line of sight view such that the vehicle charger cable (12) cannot normally be seen when it is wound in the cabinet. In another eOnembodiment of the invention the flexible cable covers (7) are replaced with a rigid cover that is held in the normal position by a spring or force that can be overcome by the vehicle charging cable (12).
Illuminating elements (8) are positioned at an angle that is off vertical to the front panel (1), this enables the light to be projected out of the slot for vehicle charging cable (10) after reflecting off the rear of the front panel (1), the light path is shown at (18). The top door (2) has a sensor that senses when the lid is opened, this sensor is used to operate the illumination element (8).
The control electronics (16) are mounted behind the vehicle cable (12).
The charger cabinet is attached to a wall mounted back panel. Mounted on the back panel is a circuit breaker (15) along with a socket (17) for connection of the back panel to the charger cabinet.
Accordingly, we claim a vehicle charging cabinet comprising means to store a vehicle charging cable (12) in a slot (10) that is formed around the periphery of the cabinet, said slot having automatically operating covers (7) that are arranged to allow the vehicle charging cable to pass into the slot and then to automatically return to a position where they hide at least part of the vehicle charging cable from at least a side view.
