Abstract

The various aspects relate to a collection tube for collecting biological specimen such as blood, urine and saliva. The collected amount is kept as low as possible for convenience. Keeping the collected amount in the tube is therefore very important, for which reason the collection tube has a narrow opening. However, a narrow opening is incompatible with automated sampling equipment. Therefore, the collection tube comprises a main body with a container cavity, to which a collection part is releasably mounted. The container cavity, with the collection member removed, has a significantly wider opening that is compatible with automated sampling probe stations. The main body and the collection part may comprise indentations or protrusions that allow engagement with a tool for separating both parts of the collection tube. The tool may be provided as a pair of tweezers of which extremities engage with both parts for forcing them apart.
