Definitions
- the invention relates to a furniture panel which has a surface coated with a film-like decorative material on at least one side and has a miter edge whose edge surface forms an acute angle ⁇ with the coated surface.
- Such furniture panels are used for example as side walls or as a top or bottom floors of furniture and usually have a core of a wood material, such as chipboard or MDF.
- the decorative material is often wood veneers, but often also plastic films or other sheet materials such as leather pulp.
- the miter edge makes it possible to join the furniture panel with another similar furniture panel miter, so that the two plates are, for example, oriented at right angles to each other when the angle between the coated surface and the edge surface is 45 °.
- the surface coated with the decorative material is usually the outer surface of a furniture carcass.
- the decorative materials of the two panels collide and form a visible joint, which often has an unsatisfactory appearance and / or can easily be damaged.
- the object of the invention is to make this joint visually appealing and to protect against damage.
- the decorative material is thus pulled around cleanly around the pointed edge of the furniture panel and continues on the part of the edge surface formed by the prism when the prism is folded back onto the main part of the furniture panel. After making the miter connection thus the edges of the decorative materials are wrapped inside and fixed in the miter.
- the edges of the decorative material webs are thus invisible and protected against damage, and at the edge of the furniture body creates a clean joint on which the decorative material webs are merely bent over but not interrupted.
- the furniture panel may also have two or more mutually perpendicular miter edges, all of which may be designed according to the invention.
- the plate may also have a blunt edge adjacent the miter edge.
- the core of the furniture panel may consist of two layers of material which are joined together at the blunt edge by two film hinges formed by the decorative material and an intermediate prism and are folded together to form the outer surface of the furniture panel Prismas forms the edge surface and the decorative material extends continuously from one main side of the plate over the edge surface to the other main side.
- the prism can then be designed so that it is folded back on only one of the two layers of material.
- FIG. 1 shows a section through part of a furniture panel according to the invention in the region of a miter edge.
- FIG. 2 shows a part of the furniture panel according to the invention in plan view
- Fig. 3 is a section along the line III-III in Fig. 2;
- 4 to 6 are sectional views illustrating various intermediate stages in the production of the furniture board.
- the furniture panel 10 shown in Fig. 1 comprises a core 12 made of a rigid wood material, for example of MDF boards, which is coated on opposite sides 14, 16 and at one of these sides connecting miter edge 18 with a foil-like decorative material 20.
- the decorative material may be, for example, plastic film or a leather pulp.
- the core 12 has two superimposed material layers 22, 24 glued together and bonded together.
- the decorative material 20 forms a web which extends continuously over the side 16 and a part of the miter edge 18 and forms a film hinge 26 at the transition to the surface of the miter edge.
- the film hinge 26 connects this material layer 24 with a prism 30 of triangular cross-section made of the same material as the core 12.
- the triangle has at the corner lying at the point of the film hinge 26 at an angle ⁇ , which is also 22.5 °.
- the material layer 22 of the core is chamfered on the side 14 so that the miter edge is completed.
- the chamfer has been attached to the sheet of material 22 so that it is not flush with the outer surface of the prism 30, but rather with the outer surface of the decorative material 20 with which this prism is coated.
- a flat edge surface which allows a stable and precise Miter connection with another furniture panel, such as a furniture panel, which is identical to the furniture panel 10 shown here.
- a part of the furniture panel 10 is shown in plan view.
- the material layer 22 which is coated on the side 14 with the decorative material covers most of the underlying material layer 24, so that only the bevel 28 of the latter is visible.
- an edge of the furniture panel adjoining the miter edge 18 is likewise designed as a mitred edge 18 '. This edge has the same structure as the miter edge 18 described above.
- the prisms 30 are chamfered so that they do not overlap each other even in the folded-back state but form a wedge-shaped gap with each other.
- an edge 32 of the furniture panel opposite the miter edge 18 ' is designed as a blunt edge, that is to say, its edge surface extends at right angles to the sides 14 and 16.
- the structure of this edge is shown in section in FIG.
- the material layers 22 and 24 of the core are each chamfered at this edge at an angle of 45 °, and the resulting gap is filled by a right angle isosceles prism 34.
- the decorative material forms two film hinges 36 which connect the base side of the prism 34 with the sides 14 and 16 of the plate.
- the decorative material 20 thus forms a continuous material web, with which the furniture panel on the sides 14 and 16, on the edge surface of the blunt edge 32 and at least on parts of the miter surfaces of the edges 18 and 18 'is sheathed.
- the manufacture of the furniture panel 10 shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 one can proceed as follows.
- a plate 38 is glued to a suitable blank of the decorative material 20, which later forms the material layers 22 and 24 of the core as well as the prisms 30 and 34.
- the cutting plane is perpendicular to the edge, which is to form the miter edge 18 later.
- the edge of the plate 38 at this edge with the edge of the decorative material 20 is flush.
- a V-shaped groove is then milled into the plate 38 parallel to the miter edge 18, whereby this plate is inserted into the material layer 24 and the prism 30. is shared.
- the bottom of the groove reaches up to the decorative material 20 and exposes a narrow strip of decorative material that forms there the film hinge 26.
- the flanks of the groove form the chamfer 28 and one side of the prism 30.
- the material layer 22 is formed by a part of the plate 38, which lies in Fig. 5 in the direction perpendicular to the plane behind the part which forms the material layer 24.
- the V-shaped groove can be continuously milled through the entire plate, whereby the material layer 22 also receives a chamfer on the side, which forms the underside in Fig. 1.
- the blunt edge 32 two parallel V-shaped grooves are milled into the plate 38 along this edge.
- the plate is divided into the material layers 24 and 22 and the prism 34, as shown in Fig. 6.
- the material layer 22 In order to also form the edge surfaces of the miter edges 18 and 18 'on the material layer 22, the material layer 22 must also be processed on the side which forms the underside in FIG. This processing (milling a 45 ° bevel) can either be done before folding over the material layers or, if appropriate, only after that, provided that it is ensured that the milling tool does not damage the surface of the decorative material on the prism 30.
