Description

A SKEWER SUITABLE TO BE USED IN PORTABLE ELECTRIC
GRILLS
The present invention relates to a skewer suitable to be used in portable electric grills. In portable electric grills, foods are cooked by being placed on the grill surface or spitted on skewers. The skewer is constituted of a metal rod whereon the foods are placed and a handle that is disposed on one end of the rod and that enables the rod heating up during the cooking process to be held safely. When the cooking process is completed, the skewer is carried to the plate and the foods are taken off the rod. Especially in cases each user carries more than one skewer to the plate, the handles occupy a wide space on the plate and use of the skewer becomes difficult. Moreover, the skewer carried to the plate becomes greasy and makes cleaning of the skewer difficult. Therefore, a skewer the rod of which can be attached to and detached from the handle thereof is needed. In the state of the art United States Patent Document No US6813993, a rotisserie is disclosed, the rod of which is detachable from the handle. The rod is fastened to the handle by seating the movable beads in the handle into a housing on the rod.
The aim of the present invention is the realization of a skewer suitable to be used in portable electric grills and wherein the rod can be easily attached to and detached from the handle.
The skewer realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention and explicated in the claims is suitable for using in portable electric grills and comprises a support that is disposed at the end of the rod connected to the handle; at least one recess-shaped groove that is arranged on the support; a retainer that is disposed on the handle and wherein the support is seated; at least one claw that is disposed on the retainer and that is seated into the groove when the rod is fitted to the handle, thus enabling the rod to be fixed to the handle; and a collar that is movably connected to the retainer, that is shaped as a collar partially surrounding the support when the rod is connected to the handle, and when moved towards the handle, the end of which enters between the groove and the claw, thus enabling the claw to be pushed out of the groove and the rod to be separated from the handle. The support is a part of the rod and can be produced as a single piece with the rod or can be mounted to be connected to the rod. Thus, a skewer that is easy to use is realized, the rod of which can be easily attached to and detached from the handle.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the skewer comprises a motor disposed inside the handle, a retainer that is rotated with the rotational movement received from the motor and the rod that is rotated together with the retainer while the rod is connected to the handle. Thus, the foods on the rod are rotated automatically and can be cooked homogeneously.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the support comprises a groove that extends along the periphery of the support so as to form a node on the support. Thus, more than one claw can be seated into a single groove. In an embodiment of the present invention, the retainer comprises four claws on the inner wall thereof whereon the support is seated and that have equal spaces therebetween. Thus, when the support is seated to the retainer, the claws grasp the support from four sides and the rod can be attached to the handle immovably.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the skewer comprises more than one protrusion disposed oppositely on the retainer or the collar and more than one bearing wherein the protrusions move and that guide the movement of the collar. Thus, the collar is prevented from damaging the claws by entering into the handle excessively or from being completely dislodged from the handle.
In an embodiment of the present invention, at least some portion of the support has a prismatic shape. Thus, the retainer grasps the support from more than one surface and the rod is prevented from rotating involuntarily while connected to the handle.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the end of the support seated into the retainer has a frustoconic shape that widens towards the groove. Thus, the movement of fitting the rod to the handle is made softer and the user can fit the support to the retainer without being strained.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the collar comprises a flange that is situated at the end of the collar remaining outside the handle and that extends in a plane perpendicular to at least one surface of the collar. The collar can be moved easily by means of the flange.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the support comprises a barrier that is situated at the end of the support whereto the support is connected to the rod and that extends in a plane perpendicular to the rod so as to surround the rod. By means of the barrier the grease dripping from the foods are prevented from reaching the handle.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the skewer comprises a spring that is disposed at the base of the retainer, that is compressed by the support when the rod is connected to the handle and that resumes its free position when the claw is dislodged from the groove and pushes the rod outwards from the handle. Thus, the rod can be separated from the handle without requiring the contact of the user.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the support is produced from thermally insulated material. Thus, when the user separates the rod from the handle, the rod heating up during cooking can be held safely. By means of the present invention, a skewer is realized, that is suitable to be used in portable electric grills, and the handle of which is prevented from being easily getting dirty.
The skewer realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention is illustrated in the attached figures, where: Figure 1 - is the perspective view of the skewer related to an embodiment of the present invention.

The skewer (1) comprises a rod (2) whereon the foods are placed and a handle (3) that is fastened to one end of the rod (2) and that enables the rod (2) to be held safely (Figure 1). The skewer (1) is suitable to be used in portable electric grills for cooking food.
The skewer (1) of the present invention comprises a support (4) situated at the end of the rod (2) fastened to the handle (3); at least one recess-shaped groove (5) disposed on the support (4); a retainer (6) that is disposed in the handle (3) and wherein the support (4) is seated; at least one claw (7) that is disposed on the retainer (6) and that enables the rod (2) to be fixed to the handle (3) by being seated in the groove (5) when the rod (2) is fitted to the handle (3), and a collar (8) with one end remaining between the retainer (6) and the support (4) when the rod (2) is attached to the handle (3) and the other end extending outwards from the handle (3) and when moved towards the handle (3), the end thereof entering between the groove (5) and the claw (7), thus enabling the claw (7) to be pushed out of the groove (5) and the rod (2) to be separated from the handle (3) (Figure 2). While the support (4) is inserted into the retainer (6), the claw (7) rubbing against the end of the support (5) is pushed. When the claw (7) and the groove (5) are opposite to each other, the claw (7) is seated in the groove (5) by turning reversely and thus the rod (2) is mounted to the handle (3). The collar (8) is shaped as a ring that surrounds the periphery of the support (4) and is movably fastened to the retainer (6). When the rod (2) is desired to be separated from the handle (3), the collar (8) is pulled towards the handle (3) and the end of the collar (8) inside the handle (3) enters between the groove (5) and the claw (7) and pushes the claw (7) out of the groove (5). When the claw (7) is freed from the groove (5), the support (4) can easily move in the retainer (6) and thus the rod (2) can be taken out of the handle (3). In an embodiment of the present invention, the skewer (1) comprises a motor (9) disposed inside the handle (3), a retainer (6) that is rotated with the rotational movement received from the motor (9) and the rod (2) that is rotated together with the retainer (6) while the rod (2) is connected to the handle (3) (Figure 2). The motor (9) that is disposed inside the handle (3) is energized by the electric current provided from the electric grill when the skewer (1) is placed on the electric grill. The rotational movement supplied from the motor (9) is transferred to the retainer
(6) by means of a shaft and the retainer (6) is rotated inside the handle (3). Thus, the rod (2) can rotate together with the retainer (6) when attached to the handle (3) by means of the support (4) being seated to the retainer (6). Thus, a skewer (1) is realized where the foods are rotated automatically.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the groove (5) extends along the periphery of the support (4) so as to form a node on the support (4) (Figure 4). In the case the support (4) is fixed to the retainer (6) by more than one claw (7), the claws (7) can be seated into the same groove (5). Thus, it is not required to open more than one groove (5) on the support (4) where each claw (7) can be seated and ease of production is provided.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the skewer (1) comprises two claws
(7) on each of the axes perpendicular to one another so that two claws (7) faces the other two. When the support (4) is seated to the retainer (7), the claws (7) grasp the support (4) from four sides. Thus, the rod (2) is rigidly fastened to the handle (3).
In an embodiment of the present invention, the skewer (1) comprises more than one protrusion (11) disposed oppositely on the retainer (6) or the collar (8) and more than one bearing (10) wherein the protrusions (11) move and that guides the movement of the collar (8) (Figure 5, Figure 6). The collar (8) is fastened to the retainer (6) by means of the protrusions (11) that are inserted into the bearings
(10) . The movement of the collar (8) is determined by means of the protrusions
(11) moving in the bearings (10) and the movement amplitude is limited by the length of the bearing (10). Thus, the use of the collar (8) is facilitated. In an embodiment of the present invention, at least some portion of the support (4) has a prismatic shape (Figure 4). The portion of the support (4) remaining between the groove (5) and the rod (2) has a square-shaped cross section. When the rod (2) is fastened to the handle (3), the retainer (6) matching the shape of the support (4) grasps the support (4) from four sides. Thus, in cases the heavily loaded rod (2) is rotated by the motor (9) or when the foods on the rod (2) have an unbalanced load distribution, the support (4) is prevented from sliding in the retainer (6).
In an embodiment of the present invention, the support (4) comprises at least one inclined surface such that the end thereof seated into the retainer (6) widens towards the groove (5) (Figure 4). The end of the support (4) has a truncated pyramid shape with its base adjacent to the groove (5). While the rod (2) is fitted to the handle (3), the claw (7) is pushed backwards gradually by rubbing on the inclined surface of the support (4) and the moment the rod (2) is opposite the groove (5), the rod (2) resumes its free position, rotates reversely and is seated in the groove (5). Thus, the movement of the support (4) while being seated to the retainer (6) is softened and the user can fit the rod (2) to the handle (3) without using much force.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the skewer (1) comprises a flange (12) that is situated at the end of the collar (8) remaining outside the handle (3) and extends in a plane perpendicular to at least one surface of the collar (8) (Figure 5). By means of the flange (12), a surface that the users can grasp with their fingers is obtained on the collar (8). Thus, the collar (8) can be moved easily and the users can separate the rod (2) from the handle (3) by using one hand.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the skewer (1) comprises a barrier (13) that is situated at the end of the support (4) whereto the support (4) is connected to the rod (2) and that extends in a plane perpendicular to the rod (2) so as to surround the rod (2) (Figure 4). By means of the barrier (13) extending in a plane perpendicular to the rod (2), the grease dripping from the foods cooked on the rod (2) is prevented from reaching the handle (3). Thus, the handle (3) is prevented from getting dirty easily.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the skewer (1) comprises a spring (14) that is disposed at the base of the retainer (6), that is compressed by the support (4) when the rod (2) is connected to the handle (3) and that resumes its free position when the claw (7) is dislodged from the groove (5) and pushes the rod (2) out of the handle (3) (Figure 3). When the collar (8) is pulled towards the handle (3) , the rod (2) is separated from the handle (3) without requiring the contact of the user. Thus, the safety of the skewer (1) is increased.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the skewer (1) comprises the handle
(4) produced from thermally insulated material. Thus, when the user separates the rod (2) from the handle (3), he/she can safely hold the rod (2) heating up during cooking.
By means of the present invention, an easy to use skewer (1) is obtained, wherein the rod (2) can be easily fitted to the handle (3) and can be separated from the handle (3) by one hand. The motor (9) disposed inside the handle (3) enables the rod (2) to be rotated automatically, thus providing the homogeneous cooking of the foods.
