Definitions
- the present invention relates to a laundry dryer effecting drying of the laundry placed in a drum.
- the present invention more particularly relates to a noise suppression element provided as an intermediate support element between a first and a second mounting frame members on which an electric motor is placed.
- a heat pump laundry dryer having a condensing unit typically has a closed cycle drying process.
- the heat pump used for drying the laundry is composed of the compressor that moves the refrigerant fluid and heat sinks named as evaporator and condenser.
- the laundry-drying process is performed by passing hot and dry air over the laundry.
- the refrigerant condenser disposed in the heat pump functions as a heater and the refrigerant evaporator functions as a condenser.
- Humid air leaving the laundry leaves its moisture while passing over the refrigerant evaporator that works as a condenser and warms while passing over the refrigerant condenser that works as a heater. Therefore, the process air is heated while passing through the refrigerant condenser, delivered onto the laundry as being heated and after dehumidifying the laundry, leaves its humidity while passing over the refrigerant evaporator.
- the refrigerant that is delivered from the compressor to the condenser with increased pressure and temperature enters the evaporator by passing through the capillary tube, i.e. the expansion valve with decreased pressure.
- laundry dryers with air-cooled condensers carry out the condensation process by using the ambient air in the drying process such that the thermal interaction between the cooling ambient air and the closed cycle air having separate cycles is in question.
- the cooling air is passed onto the condenser by means of a fan and thus, the moisture in the processing air is condensed by the condenser that is being cooled.
- air laden with moisture that comes from over the laundry passes through a processing air channel and is hereby condensed while the latter is being cooled by means of the outer environment air.
- the closed cycle air is dehumidified on the condenser, it is heated by a heater and applied to the drum by being put again into the drying cycle with low relative humidity rate and at high temperature.
- the processing air fan circulates the processing air to the drum while heated either by the refrigerant condenser or by the heater.
- the electric motor of a home-user laundry dryer being typically supported on the frame of the chassis, reaches speeds to cause vibrations and in turn non-negligible audible noise.
- the present invention provides a noise suppression structure, which allows generation of a reduced operational noise by means of a noise suppression element effective in dissipating vibrational energy in contact with the structural frame carrying the electric motor of the laundry dryer.
- a prior art publication in the technical field of the present invention may be referred to as WO2010063760A1 among others, the document disclosing a condensation dryer with a housing comprising a wall area forming a rear side and with a process air circuit for circulating process air, said circuit having a section outside the housing and running along the wall area and being otherwise located inside the housing, there being located in the circuit a fan for circulating the process air and a drying chamber for holding objects to be dried.
- the present invention provides an improved noise suppression structure so as to dissipate vibrational energy so that its radiation is prevented, as defined by the characterizing features given in Claim 1.
- Primary object of the present invention is hence to provide a laundry dryer whose noise profile is improved such that a reduced operational noise is obtainable.
- the present invention proposes a laundry dryer having a noise suppression element occupying an intermediate space as an intermediate support between a first and a second mounting frame members on which an electric motor is placed and the chassis of the laundry dryer.
- the noise suppression element is structurally designed such that it fills the space under the motor throughout its longitudinal axis between said first and second mounting frame members and the chassis of the laundry dryer such that the first and a second mounting frame members are not in mechanical communication with the chassis.
- the noise suppression element is supported on both sides on two chassis cavities while supporting itself the motor and establishing a surface contact relationship with the chassis. This is accomplished by a first and second contact member of the noise suppression element establishing a surface-wide contact relationship with said cavities.
- a longitudinal bridging portion of the noise suppression element integrally connects the two contact members thereof while at the same time providing a physical barrier around the motor axis manner at the lower side thereof.
- a vibration damping sheet is provided to entirely cover surface of said noise suppression element.
- surfaces of the first and second contact members are provided with said vibration damping sheet in the form of a thin layer of elastomeric material. Therefore, surfaces of the first and second contact members in contact with the cavity surfaces of the chassis ensure dissipation of vibrational energy by means of the vibration damping sheet.

- the present invention relates to a laundry dryer (1) comprising a front door (4, indirectly demonstrated in Fig. 1) allowing access into a drum (2) installed in the laundry dryer (1).
- the laundry dryer (1) generally comprises a six-sided cabinet with the front side door by which one can put in a laundry to be treated.
- the laundry dryer (1) of the invention may comprise an air circulation duct by means of which circulation of the processing air is effected for drying of the laundry in said drum (2).
- a processing air fan (3, indirectly shown in Fig. 1 under a hood) provides circulation of the processing air such that the processing air is condensed by an air-cooled condenser.
- the cooling air is taken from an outer air duct by means of an open cycle fan. The cooling air is passed onto the air-cooled condenser to cool the same while a heater placed in the air circulation duct provides the dehumidified processing air coming from the air-cooled condenser to be heated and sent onto the laundry.
- the laundry dryer (1) may comprise a compressor providing the refrigerant cycle in an air duct in a conventional manner meanwhile the processed air is circulated by means of said processing air fan (3) in the close vicinity of a rear wall (5) portion of the laundry dryer (1).
- the compressor may typically move the refrigerant fluid such that heat sinks named as the refrigerant evaporator and refrigerant condenser disposed in the heat pump respectively function as a condenser and heater.
- an expansion valve is conventionally provided between the refrigerant evaporator and the refrigerant condenser, being disposed in fluid communication with the latter two in the refrigerant line.
- the processing air fan (3) and the drum (2) can be both mechanically coupled to the shaft of an electric motor (7) rotatable to drive both of the same via a belt-pulley transmission.
- the motor (7) can be supported on the base of the laundry dryer (1) on first and second mounting frame members (8, 9) in connection with the appliance chassis (6) on the base thereof.
- a noise suppression element (10) in accordance with the invention is used as delineated hereinafter.
- the noise suppression element (10) of the present invention constitutes an intermediate support element between the structure formed by the first and second mounting frame members (8, 9) on which the motor (7) is placed and the chassis (6) of the laundry dryer (1).
- the noise suppression element (10) suppresses resonant motion and dissipates vibrational energy so that its radiation is prevented, significantly contributive in reducing the overall noise being generated by the laundry dryer (1).
- the noise suppression element (10) partially fills the space under the motor (7) throughout its longitudinal axis such that both mounting frame members are attached onto the upper surface of the noise suppression element (10) while the noise suppression element (10) constitutes an intermediate medium in between the mounting frame members (8, 9) and the chassis (6).
- the noise suppression element (10) and the chassis (6) mutually support each other from their reciprocating surfaces in a mutual surface contact relationship.
- the noise suppression element (10) basically increases the stiffness and mass of the mechanical structure the electric motor (7) is supported.
- the noise suppression element (10) of the present invention therefore primarily prevents radiation of vibrations originated from the motor (7) throughout the mounting frame members (8, 9) to the chassis (6) of the laundry dryer (1). This is accomplished by means of the noise suppression element (10) having first and second contact members (11, 12) connected by a longitudinal bridging portion (13) so that a surface-wide contact relationship is established between respective chassis cavities (15) and first and second contact members (11, 12) as well as between the longitudinal bridging portion (13) and the chassis (6). Therefore, the mounting frame members (8, 9) carrying and supporting the motor (7) in direct contact therewith transfer vibrations to the noise suppression element (10) through which vibrational energy is dissipated and radiation and building up of the vibrations as sound is prevented.
- the effect of the noise suppression element (10) is pronounced by means of the longitudinal bridging portion (13) which is continuously in contact with the chassis (6) of the laundry dryer. This part also provides a physical barrier against the propagation of the motor (7) vibrations through the air.
- a vibration damping sheet (14) is provided to entirely cover surfaces of the noise suppression element (10) such that both lateral surfaces of the first and second contact members (11, 12) including oppositely facing outer lateral surfaces are provided with a relatively thin sheet of elastomeric material.
- the lateral surfaces of the first and second contact members (11, 12) as well the surface of the longitudinal bridging portion (13) respectively establishing surface-wide contact with the chassis cavities (15) and the planar portion of the chassis surface provides that the vibrational energy is effectively dissipated.
- the present invention proposes a laundry dryer (1) effecting drying of the laundry placed in a drum (2), the laundry dryer (1) comprising a front door (4) allowing access into the drum (2), a processing air fan (3) providing circulation of the processing air and an electric motor (7) rotating sad drum (2) and being supported on first and second mounting frame members (8, 9) in association with a chassis (6) portion of the laundry dryer (1).
- a noise suppression element (10) is provided as an intermediate support between mounting frame members on which the motor (7) is placed and chassis (6) of the laundry dryer (1).
- the noise suppression element (10) partially fills the space under the motor (7) throughout its longitudinal axis to be contacted by the first and second mounting frame members (8, 9). Therefore, the longitudinal extension of the noise suppression element (10) physically fills a space portion under the motor (7) body to physically isolate the chassis (6) from the motor (7).
- the noise suppression element (10) comprises first and second contact members (11, 12) establishing a surface-wide contact relationship with respective chassis cavities (15).
- the noise suppression element (10) comprises first and second contact members (11, 12) establishing a surface-wide contact relationship with respective chassis cavities (15).
- the noise suppression element (10) comprises a longitudinal bridging portion (13) such that the noise suppression element (10) and the chassis (6) mutually support each other from their reciprocating surfaces in a mutual surface contact relationship.
