METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR COMMUNICATION CHANNEL POWER
REDUCTION
TECHNICAL FIELD

BACKGROUND
[0001] Many users have become dependent on electronic apparatuses to manage various aspects of their lives. For example, many users keep track of many of their appointments, meetings and other events in a calendar program on their electronic apparatus. In addition, many users utilize electronic apparatuses for communication. Furthermore, many users have multiple electronic apparatuses. It may be desirable to allow users to interoperate multiple electronic apparatuses in a simple, intuitive, and power conscious manner.

[0003] One or more embodiments may provide an apparatus, a computer readable medium, a non-transitory computer readable medium, a computer program product, and a method for entering a call associated with a call endpoint identifier, the call endpoint identifier being associated with an apparatus, determining that a separate apparatus is associated with the call endpoint identifier, determining that the separate apparatus is not proximate to the apparatus, and sending a communication channel power reduction directive to the separate apparatus based, at least in part, on the determination that the separate apparatus is not proximate to the apparatus.

For example, a cellular network may determine one or more apparatus identifier that is associated with a call endpoint identifier, such as an international mobile equipment identity (IMEI) that is associated with a phone number, and utilize the apparatus identifier to provide call information to the apparatus. In at least one example embodiment, a call endpoint identifier is associated with an apparatus by way of the apparatus being designated to receive call information based, at least in part, on the call endpoint identifier.

way of a call endpoint identifier, and a different apparatus may utilize a different apparatus communication channel for entrance to a call by way of a call endpoint identifier. In at least one example embodiment, a call relates to a cellular call, and an apparatus communication channel relates to an apparatus cellular communication channel.

communication channel to determine if the communication network is attempting to establish a call with the apparatus. In such an example, the apparatus may save more power in association with a greater interval between evaluations that in association with a lesser interval between evaluations. For example, the reduction of the amount of time may relate to an increased communication frame interval associated with the separate apparatus communication channel. In at least one example embodiment, the communication frame interval relates to a paging frame.

For example, the user may desire to utilize an apparatus at the office, desire to utilize a different apparatus in the car, and/or the like. In this manner, the user may freely use such apparatuses without necessarily performing additional forwarding operations.

For example, the user may initiate a call, may answer a received call, and/or the like.

Claims
1. An apparatus, comprising:
at least one processor;
at least one memory including computer program code, the memory and the computer program code configured to, working with the processor, cause the apparatus to perform at least the following:
entering a call associated with a call endpoint identifier, the call endpoint identifier being associated with the apparatus;
determining that a separate apparatus is associated with the call endpoint identifier;
determining that the separate apparatus is not proximate to the apparatus; and
sending a communication channel power reduction directive to the separate apparatus based, at least in part, on the determination that the separate apparatus is not proximate to the apparatus.
2. The apparatus of Claim 1, wherein sending the communication channel power reduction directive to the separate apparatus comprises sending the communication channel power reduction directive to the separate apparatus by way of a communication network that is unassociated with the separate apparatus communication channel.
3. The apparatus of any of Claims 1-2, wherein determination that the separate apparatus is not proximate to the apparatus comprises:
determining the position of the apparatus;
determining the position of the separate apparatus; and
determining that the separate apparatus is not proximate to the apparatus based, at least in part, on the position of the apparatus being beyond a threshold distance from the position of the separate apparatus.
4. The apparatus of any of Claims 1-3, wherein determination that the separate apparatus is not proximate to the apparatus comprises:
determining that the apparatus is in communication with a communication apparatus of a communication network;
determining that the separate apparatus is not in communication with the communication apparatus; and
determining that the separate apparatus is not proximate to the apparatus is based, at least in part, on the determination that the separate apparatus is not in communication with the communication apparatus.
5. The apparatus of any of Claims 1-4, wherein determination that the separate apparatus is not proximate to the apparatus comprises determining that the separate apparatus is unavailable for proximity-based communication.
6. The apparatus of any of Claims 1-5, wherein the memory includes computer program code configured to, working with the processor, cause the apparatus to perform:
determining that a threshold separation time has elapsed; and determining that the apparatus remains non-proximate to the separate apparatus, wherein sending the communication channel power reduction directive is based, at least in part, on the determination that the threshold separation time has elapsed and the determination the apparatus remains non-proximate to the separate apparatus.
7. The apparatus of any of Claims 1-6, wherein the memory includes computer program code configured to, working with the processor, cause the apparatus to perform:
determining that the apparatus has become proximate to the separate apparatus; and
sending, to the separate apparatus, a communication channel power reduction cancelation directive based, at least in part, on the determination that the apparatus has become proximate to the separate apparatus.
8. The apparatus of any of Claims 1-7, wherein the memory includes computer program code configured to, working with the processor, cause the apparatus to perform:
ending the call; and
sending, to the separate apparatus, a communication channel power reduction cancelation directive based, at least in part, on the end of the call.
9. The apparatus of any of Claims 1-8, wherein the apparatus is a mobile phone.
10. A method comprising:
entering a call associated with a call endpoint identifier, the call endpoint identifier being associated with an apparatus;
determining that a separate apparatus is associated with the call endpoint identifier;
determining that the separate apparatus is not proximate to the apparatus; and
sending a communication channel power reduction directive to the separate apparatus based, at least in part, on the determination that the separate apparatus is not proximate to the apparatus.
11. The method of Claim 10, wherein sending the communication channel power reduction directive to the separate apparatus comprises sending the communication channel power reduction directive to the separate apparatus by way of a communication network that is unassociated with the separate apparatus communication channel.
12. The method of any of Claims 10-1 1 , wherein determination that the separate apparatus is not proximate to the apparatus comprises:
determining the position of the apparatus;
determining the position of the separate apparatus; and
determining that the separate apparatus is not proximate to the apparatus based, at least in part, on the position of the apparatus being beyond a threshold distance from the position of the separate apparatus.
13. The method of any of Claims 10-12, wherein determination that the separate apparatus is not proximate to the apparatus comprises:
determining that the apparatus is in communication with a communication apparatus of a communication network;
determining that the separate apparatus is not in communication with the communication apparatus; and
determining that the separate apparatus is not proximate to the apparatus is based, at least in part, on the determination that the separate apparatus is not in communication with the communication apparatus.
14. The method of any of Claims 10-13, wherein determination that the separate apparatus is not proximate to the apparatus comprises determining that the separate apparatus is unavailable for proximity-based communication.
15. The method of any of Claims 10-14, further comprising:
determining that a threshold separation time has elapsed; and determining that the apparatus remains non-proximate to the separate apparatus, wherein sending the communication channel power reduction directive is based, at least in part, on the determination that the threshold separation time has elapsed and the determination the apparatus remains non-proximate to the separate apparatus.
16. The method of any of Claims 10-15, further comprising:
determining that the apparatus has become proximate to the separate apparatus; and
sending, to the separate apparatus, a communication channel power reduction cancelation directive based, at least in part, on the determination that the apparatus has become proximate to the separate apparatus.
17. At least one computer-readable medium encoded with instructions that, when executed by a processor, perform:
entering a call associated with a call endpoint identifier, the call endpoint identifier being associated with an apparatus;
determining that a separate apparatus is associated with the call endpoint identifier;
determining that the separate apparatus is not proximate to the apparatus; and
sending a communication channel power reduction directive to the separate apparatus based, at least in part, on the determination that the separate apparatus is not proximate to the apparatus.
18. The medium of Claim 17, wherein sending the communication channel power reduction directive to the separate apparatus comprises sending the communication channel power reduction directive to the separate apparatus by way of a communication network that is unassociated with the separate apparatus communication channel.
19. The medium of any of Claims 17-18, wherein determination that the separate apparatus is not proximate to the apparatus comprises:
determining the position of the apparatus;
determining the position of the separate apparatus; and
determining that the separate apparatus is not proximate to the apparatus based, at least in part, on the position of the apparatus being beyond a threshold distance from the position of the separate apparatus.
20. The medium of any of Claims 17-19, wherein determination that the separate apparatus is not proximate to the apparatus comprises:
determining that the apparatus is in communication with a communication apparatus of a communication network;
determining that the separate apparatus is not in communication with the communication apparatus; and
determining that the separate apparatus is not proximate to the apparatus is based, at least in part, on the determination that the separate apparatus is not in communication with the communication apparatus.
