Abstract

Energy saving has increasingly become the focus attention of all world because of the dual crisis of energy and environment. One of the most important sources of energy saving is saving energy on highways and express roads. Extensive research efforts have been made towards saving energy on highways and express roads. Although these efforts have researched a good level of energy saving by reducing energy loss during lighting, there is still an urgent need to save more energy to save money and also for environment protection. To the best of our knowledge, all the present energy saving technologies on highways and express roads depend on either using energy saving bulbs or using photocell street lighting. Also, using reflectors with two discharge lamps represents an energy and economic improvement of the street lighting with respect to traditional bi-power system. However, there is a need to develop more efficient energy saving techniques to save more money by reducing energy loss. Motivated by this, a new energy saving technique is proposed to reduce the energy loss on highways and express roads by efficiently using energy only when needed.

Description

An Intelligent Energy Saving Lighting Device
Technical Field
Energy Saving Background Art
(1) All the present energy saving technologies on highways and express roads depend on either using energy saving bulbs or using photocell street lighting.
(2) Also, using reflectors with two discharge lamps represents an energy and economic improvement of the street lighting with respect to traditional bi-power system.
Disclosure of Invention
(1) In most countries the rate of passing cars after midnight is very low.
(2) The highways and express roads are kept lightened even if there are no passing cars.
(3) There is a need to develop more efficient energy saving techniques to save more money by reducing energy loss.
(4) A new energy saving technique is proposed to reduce the energy loss on highways and express roads by efficiently using energy only when needed.
(5) The intelligent energy saving lighting device is a device that lights highways and express roads partially based on the existence of cars and trucks.
(6) The road lights lighten only on the front of cars and trucks for a specific distance or for a specific time depending on street minimum speed and the lights are off whenever the roads are empty of cars and ., trucks.
(7) A laser sensor is used in order to detect the existence of cars. This laser detection will be fed into the microcontroller which is in turn will switch on the roads lights on the front of cars for a designed distance or time.
(8) The details of the operation of the proposed device are described in Fig. 1 and Fig. 2.

Claims

Claims
(1) An intelligent energy saving lighting device is developed based on microcontroller. A microcontroller is a small computer on a single chip -containing a microprocessor, memory, and programmable input/output peripherals.
(2) The proposed device works based on laser sensor, which detects the existence of cars on highways and express roads. This laser sensor is selected carefully to be suitable to work with very low power and at -20 to +50 degree temperature which makes it very efficient to work in both very cold and very hot countries.
(3) Controlling the distance or time for which the road lights are on is achieved by executing a specific code which is written on the ROM of the microcontroller.
(4) The proposed device shown in Fig. 3 also has an electronic control assembly attached to it.
(5) It is provided with an access control system. This system allows the user to lock and unlock the device with a password and thus no one can change the designed process.
(6) The proposed device has also a fog sensor which detects the existence of heavy fog or rain.
(7) When there is a heavy fog or rain, the device will keep the lights on for the safety of cars and trucks.
.
(8) In case of accidents, the proposed device will have the ability to turn on the lights in the accidents place.
(9) In case of tunnels, and hills, the road lights will always be on for safety.
