Abstract
The invention relates to a method and a device for operating a range extender (RE) for electric vehicles, which comprises an internal combustion engine (ICE) having a mechanically coupled generator (GE), wherein the mechanical energy produced by the internal combustion engine (ICE) is converted into electric current by the generator (GE) and fed to an electrical storage unit (BAT). According to the invention, the mechanical energy of the internal combustion engine (ICE) is converted directly into direct current in a direct-current generator (GE), wherein the voltage of the direct current is controlled by controlling and/or regulating the rotational speed of the generator (GE) or of the internal combustion engine (ICE).
