Description

UNIVERSAL ELECTRICAL PLUG
Field
In one aspect, the present invention relates to a universal electrical plug where the pins are removable, replaceable, changeable, arrange able, re-arrange able, configurable and/or re-configurable to suit different electrical pin types and arrangements of electrical sockets of countries around the world, for coupling electrical appliances to a source of electrical power.
In another aspect, the present invention relates to the combination of a universal plug of the type described herein and a cable-locking device.
The present invention also has a Universal Serial Bus (USB) version, a retractable pin version and a universal adaptor version.
Background
It has been the case that electronic device manufacturers export their electronic devices to countries around the world, therefore they have to manufacture many different types of plugs to suit each and every country's electrical socket's pin arrangement.
In addition, electrical devices in one particular country, for example Singapore that uses the United Kingdom (Type G) socket, cannot be charged in another country directly, for example Israel that uses the (Type H) socket, without the use of a universal adaptor. However, at present, universal adaptors are very thick and bulky and are not cost efficient to be manufactured to be shipped with electronic devices around the world and thus manufacturers choose to manufacture individual electrical plugs for each country in the world that their electronic devices are being shipped to, but this leads to the inconvenience of needing to manufacture many different electrical plugs to suit the many different electrical sockets in the world. Also, the pin arrangement of universal adaptors can only suit one particular pin arrangement of an electrical socket, which sometimes only suits one country's electrical socket's pin arrangement.
Consumers on the other hand would have to carry multiple adaptors of different pin arrangements or purchase many types of the current universal adaptors of different pin arrangement which has a universal plug socket located at the back of the adaptor, to use their devices around the world when traveling/at different parts around the world, which is very inconvenient and troublesome. Clearly, it would be advantageous if just one plug is needed to be manufactured to suit all the different types of pin sockets of countries around the world and if the thickness of the plug is thinner than universal adaptors and the universal plug will truly be universal when the plug can be directly used in each and every country's sockets without the need to use a universal adaptor or any adaptor of sort, by allowing the pin arrangement of the universal plug that is to be inserted into the electrical sockets, to be able to fit directly into the different electrical sockets around the world.
Summary
In accordance with a presently preferred arrangement, therein is provided a universal plug of the type described herein comprising: a plug main body and a plurality of electrical pins, the pins can be removed, replaced, changed, arranged, re-arranged, configured and/or re-configured to suit different electrical pin types and arrangements of electrical sockets of all countries around the world.
A principle advantage of this universal plug invention is that it can be used in countries all around the world, just by removing, replacing, changing, arranging, rearranging, configuring and/or re-configuring the different electrical pin types and arrangement of this universal plug to suit for insertion into the different electrical sockets in all countries around the world. Therefore, minuses the need for manufacturers to make different electrical plugs of different pin arrangements to suit the different types of electrical plug sockets of each and every country around the world and also minuses the need for consumers to have to purchase many different adaptors or the current electrical plugs with a universal plug socket located at the back of the plug, to use their devices around the world.
In another arrangement, the plug main body of the universal plug of the type described herein may include a transformer. The transformer may be configured to step down mains voltage to a lower voltage.
The plug main body may include a socket into which an electrical plug may be plugged. In one arrangement, the socket is for electrical plugs with different pin configuration.
In one implementation, the electrical plug may function as both a voltage converter and a pin configuration converter.
The pins of the plug can be configured and mounted in a cooperating housing before being plugged into an electrical socket.
The cooperating housing may be coupled to a cable and the housing may function as an electrical bridge between the electrical pins of said plug and wires of said cable.
The cooperating housing may be coupled with electrical pins that are removable, replaceable, changeable, arrange able, re-arrange able, configurable and/or re- configurable where the cooperating housing may be directly plugged into the different pin types and pin arrangements of different electrical socket mains. The plug main body of the universal plug of the type described herein has another version which includes a Universal Serial Bus (USB) port or other connector socket located at the bottom of the plug into which a USB or other connector can be plugged.
Another aspect of the teachings of the invention is, accompanying and relating to the universal plug of the type described herein, is the cable-locking device. The cable- locking device locks any two wires, combining them into one single wire.
Another aspect of the teachings of the invention is, accompanying and relating to the universal plug of the type described herein, is the retractable pin version. The retractable pin version, which embodies the teachings of the invention, allows the electrical pins of the universal plug of the type described herein to be able to stow the pins of the universal plug without removing them.
Another aspect of the teachings of the invention provides a multi-plug adaptor and one or more electrical plugs as described herein, the adaptor comprising; a plurality of electrical pins arranged so that the adaptor can be plugged into an electrical socket for supply of electrical power to the adaptor; and a plurality of adaptor sockets into one or more of which an electrical plug as described herein, but not exclusively, can be plugged, the adaptor including electrical connectors that are configured to electrically couple said electrical pins to each said adaptor socket for the supply of electrical power thereto.
The connector may comprise of a plurality of electrical pins configured to mate with a said adaptor socket, and at least one socket for connection with a connector (such as a USB connector).
The existing electrical wires of electrical devices that are connected to the mains can be cut off and fixed on with one face of the cable-locking device and locked into the complementing face that is located extruded out from the bottom of the universal plug of the type described herein.
In another arrangement, the pins of the universal plug of the type described herein can be removed and stowed, thereby reducing packaging materials of manufacturers. Being able for the pins of the universal plug type described herein, to be removed and stowed, this also removes the risk of the pins poking out into and destroying materials in compartments such as consumer's luggage or bags.
In another arrangement, the electrical pins of the retractable pin version of the universal plug of the type described herein can be removed and stowed or retracted and stowed into the plug's main body, thus also reducing packaging materials of manufacturers. Being able for the pins of the retractable version of the universal plug type described herein, to be removed and stowed or retracted and stowed into the plug's main body, this also removes the risk of the pins poking out into and destroying materials in compartments such as consumer's luggage or bags.
