Description

TOUCH SCREEN FOR DISPLAY DEVICES
The present invention relates to an optical touch screen that is suitable for utilization in display devices such as television and computer.
Screens of display devices such as television and computer are produced to be touch-operated in some embodiments, thus, using components such as keyboard and mouse is not required. Touch screens are produced in various types such as capacitive, resistive or electromagnetic and optical touch screens are preferred particularly in the educational field due to ease of use and low costs. In optical touch screens, a glass panel is placed in front of the LCD or plasma panel and cameras are placed at the edges or corners of the glass panel. The cameras have linear light emitters generally of infrared type and light receivers. The camera detects the coordinates of the areas the user touches on the glass panel with his/her finger or by using a special pen. In optical touch screens, furthermore, reflectors are used that provide the beams emitted from the light emitter of the camera and reflected from the touched points to be kept within the boundaries of the screen. In order to place the reflectors onto the touch screen, an adhesion surface surrounding the touch screen is required. In the state of the art, the components whereon the reflectors are placed increase the weight and the cost of the touch screen.
In the state of the art International Patent Application No. WO2012011686, a camera module and an optical touch screen are explained. The cameras and the reflectors located on the optical touch screen are placed to a frame mounted to the case top.
The aim of the present invention is the realization of a touch screen that is suitable for utilization in electronic devices such as television and computer, and the weight and cost of which are reduced.
The touch screen realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention, explicated in the first claim and the respective claims thereof, is suitable for utilization in display devices such as television and computer and comprises an LCD or plasma type rear panel, a front panel which provides the user to input data by touching and which is produced from a transparent material such as glass or transparent plastic, preferably from glass, a casing surrounding the rear panel and the front panel, one or more than one camera placed onto the front panel and reflectors which keep the beams emitted from the camera and reflected within the boundaries of the front panel. The touch screen, furthermore, comprises a profile produced from hollow plastic material, which extends along at least one edge of the casing, which at least partially surrounds the front panel surface facing the user, and to the inner surface, that is perpendicular to the front panel, of which the reflector is placed.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the profile is produced by the extrusion method and fixed on the inner part of the casing by adhesion.
In another embodiment of the present invention, the profile and the casing are joined by a plastic welding method, for example the friction welding method.
In another embodiment of the present invention, the profile and the casing are produced as a single piece in a plastic injection mould or the profile and the casing are joined by the over-injection method.
In another embodiment of the present invention, the profile is placed between the casing and the front panel and supports the front panel by bearing against the inner surface of the front panel facing the user.
In another embodiment of the present invention, camera holding extensions, preferably produced as single pieces with the profiles, are situated at the corner regions of the casing, on the edges of the profiles which extend towards each other.
In the touch screen of the present invention, the cameras and the reflectors are mounted onto the front panel using light and easily produced hollow plastic profiles, thus the weight and the production cost of the touch screen are decreased.
The touch screen realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention is illustrated in the attached figures, where:
