- Example 10 a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery was produced in the same manner as in Example 1 except that the thickness of the active material layers of the positive electrode 1 and the negative electrode 6 was changed to set the design capacity to 3050 mAh. This is the battery of Example 10.
- Example 11 In Example 11, the length in the longitudinal direction of the active material layers of the positive electrode 1 and the negative electrode 6 was changed to 3000 mAh, and the length of the positive electrode current collector exposed portion 4 was set to 162 mm. Abstract
Description
(1)正極1の作製
正極活物質であるLiCoO2を97重量%と、導電剤であるアセチレンブラックを1重量%と、結着剤であるポリフッ化ビニリデンを2重量%とを混合した。混合したものを、適量のN-メチル-2-ピロリドン中に分散させ、双腕式練合機を用いて混合することにより正極合剤スラリーを調製した。この正極合剤スラリーを正極集電体3である厚さが15μmのアルミニウム箔の両面に塗布し、乾燥後にローラープレスによって圧延を行った。これを幅57mmに裁断して、正極1を作製した。但し、正極1には、図4に示すように長さ方向の外周端から107mm部分は、その両面に正極活物質層2を形成せず、正極集電体露出部4を設けた。また、正極1の中央部分に正極リード5を超音波溶接した。
負極活物質である人造黒鉛を98重量%と、結着剤であるスチレン-ブタジエンゴムを1重量%と、増粘剤であるカルボキシメチルセルロースを1重量%とを混合した。混合したものを、適量の水中に分散させ、双腕式練合機を用いて混合することにより負極合剤スラリーを調製した。この負極合剤スラリーを負極集電体8である厚さが10μmの銅箔の両面に塗布し、乾燥後にローラープレスによって圧延を行った。これを幅58mmに裁断し、負極6を作製した。但し、負極6には、図5に示すように長さ方向の外周端において、正極1と共に捲回した際に、正極活物質層2と対向しない部分はその片面又は両面に負極活物質層7を形成せず、負極集電体露出部9を設けた。また、負極集電体露出部9に負極リード10を超音波溶接した。
エチレンカーボネート、エチルメチルカーボネート及びジメチルカーボネートを体積比25:25:50で含む混合溶媒に、LiPF6を1.2mol/Lの濃度で溶解して、非水電解質を調製した。
上記の通りに作製した正極1及び負極6を、厚みが16μmのポリエチレン樹脂の単層からなるセパレータ11を介して捲回し、電極群12を構成した。その際に、正極集電体露出部4は電極群12の最外周を2周して、正極集電体対向部22を構成した。正極集電体対向部22からはセパレータ11を切除した。電極群12の最外周には絶縁層14として前記セパレータ11を全周捲回した。電極群12の長手方向の両端に上部絶縁板20及び下部絶縁板21を装着した後、それらを有底円筒形の電池ケース13(直径18mm、高さ65mm、内径17.85mm)に挿入した。正極リード5及び負極リード10を、各々、フィルタ17の下部及び電池ケース13の内底面に接続した。その後、上述した非水電解質5.0gを電池ケース13内に注液した。電池ケース13の開口部に端子板15を装着し、開口端部を端子板15に向けてかしめつけ、電池ケース13を封口した。こうして、設計容量2750mAhの円筒形リチウムイオン二次電池を作製した。これを実施例1の電池とする。
実施例2では、正極集電体露出部4の長さを162mmとした以外は実施例1と同様にしてリチウムイオン二次電池を作製した。その際、正極集電体露出部4を電極群12の最外周部に3周分設けた。これを実施例2の電池とする。
実施例3では、正極集電体露出部4の長さを218mmとした以外は実施例1と同様にしてリチウムイオン二次電池を作製した。その際、正極集電体露出部4を電極群12の最外周部に4周分設けた。これを実施例3の電池とする。
実施例4では、正極集電体露出部4の長さを265mmとした以外は実施例1と同様にしてリチウムイオン二次電池を作製した。その際、正極集電体露出部4を電極群12の最外周部に5周分設けた。これを実施例4の電池とする。
実施例5では、正極集電体露出部4の長さを323mmとした以外は実施例1と同様にしてリチウムイオン二次電池を作製した。その際、正極集電体露出部4を電極群12の最外周部に6周分設けた。これを実施例5の電池とする。
実施例6では、正極集電体露出部4の長さを382mmとした以外は実施例1と同様にしてリチウムイオン二次電池を作製した。その際、正極集電体露出部4を電極群12の最外周部に7周分設けた。これを実施例6の電池とする。
実施例7では、電極群12を構成する際に正極集電体対向部22にあるセパレータ11を切除しなかった以外は実施例1と同様にしてリチウムイオン二次電池を作製した。これを実施例7の電池とする。
実施例8では、電極群12を構成する際に正極集電体対向部22にあるセパレータ11を切除しなかった以外は実施例3と同様にしてリチウムイオン二次電池を作製した。これを実施例8の電池とする。
実施例9では、電極群12を構成する際に正極集電体対向部22にあるセパレータ11を切除しなかった以外は実施例5と同様にしてリチウムイオン二次電池を作製した。これを実施例9の電池とする。
実施例10では、正極1と負極6の活物質層の厚さを変更して設計容量を3050mAhとした以外は実施例1と同様にして非水電解質二次電池を作製した。これを実施例10の電池とする。
実施例11では、正極1と負極6の活物質層の長手方向の長さを変更して設計容量を3000mAhとし、正極集電体露出部4の長さを162mmとした以外は実施例10と同様にして非水電解質二次電池を作製した。その際、正極集電体露出部4を電極群12の最外周部に3周分設けた。これを実施例11の電池とする。
実施例12では、正極1と負極6の活物質層の長手方向の長さを変更して設計容量を2950mAhとし、正極集電体露出部4の長さを218mmとした以外は実施例10と同様にして非水電解質二次電池を作製した。その際、正極集電体露出部4を電極群12の最外周部に4周分設けた。これを実施例12の電池とする。

実施例15では、正極1と負極6の活物質層の長手方向の長さを変更して設計容量を2800mAhとし、正極集電体露出部4の長さを382mmとした以外は実施例10と同様にして非水電解質二次電池を作製した。その際、正極集電体露出部4を電極群12の最外周部に7周分設けた。これを実施例15の電池とする。
比較例1では、正極集電体露出部4を53mmとした以外は実施例1と同様にしてリチウムイオン二次電池を作製した。その際、正極集電体露出部4は電極群12の最外周部を1周し、正極集電体対向部22は形成されなかった。これを比較例1の電池とする。
比較例2では、正極集電体露出部4を53mmとした以外は実施例10と同様にしてリチウムイオン二次電池を作製した。その際、正極集電体露出部4は電極群12の最外周部を1周し、正極集電体対向部22は形成されなかった。これを比較例2の電池とする。
比較例3では、正極1と負極6の活物質層の厚さを変更して設計容量を2300mAhとした以外は比較例1と同様にしてリチウムイオン二次電池を作製した。その際、正極集電体露出部4は電極群12の最外周部を1周し、正極集電体対向部22は形成されなかった。これを比較例3の電池とする。
各電池に対して、以下の条件で充電を行った。そして、20℃環境下で、充電状態の電池の側面から、直径3mmの鉄釘を10mm/秒の速度で貫通するまで突き刺し、内部短絡を発生させた。その際の電池の30秒後の到達温度を、釘刺し位置から離れた電池の側面に配置した熱電対で測定した。その結果を表1に示す。
定電流充電;電流値1000mA/充電終止電圧4.3V
定電圧充電;電圧値4.3V/充電終止電流100mA
y=0.5424x+21.127 (式1)
となる。また、比較例について同様に直線近似を行うと
y=0.7426x+0.9821 (式2)
となる。式1と式2とを比較するとその傾きが異なっており、実施例と比較例との結果には有意差があると考えられる。また、式1と式2とから2直線の交点を求めると
x=100.6(mAh/μm)
となる。xの値がこの値よりも大きいとき、釘刺し試験30秒後の電池表面温度の上昇が大きいと考えられるため、xの値は100mAh/μm以下であることが好ましい。また、xの値が40mAh/μmよりも小さいとき、釘刺し試験30秒後の電池表面温度は40℃程度でほぼ一定となった。xの値を必要以上に小さくすると電池内に占める正極集電体露出部4の比率が大きくなり、電池容量が減少するため、xの値は40mAh/μm以上であることが好ましい。

Claims (6)
- 正極集電体の表面に形成された正極活物質層を含む正極と、負極集電体の表面に形成された負極活物質層を含む負極とが、セパレータを介して捲回された電極群が非水電解質と共に電池ケースに収容されたリチウムイオン二次電池であって、
前記正極は、前記正極活物質層が形成されずに前記正極集電体が露出した正極集電体露出部を有し、
前記負極は、前記負極活物質層が形成されずに前記負極集電体が露出した負極集電体露出部を有し、
前記正極集電体露出部同士又は前記負極集電体露出部同士が直接に又は前記セパレータを介して互いに対向するように捲回されている部分である同極集電体対向部が、捲回された前記電極群において1周以上の範囲に設けられているリチウムイオン二次電池。 - 請求項1において
前記正極集電体露出部と前記負極集電体露出部とが前記セパレータを介してそれぞれ対向するように捲回されている部分である異極集電体対向部が、前記電極群において1周以上の範囲に設けられているリチウムイオン二次電池。 - 請求項1又は2において、
前記電池ケースは、正極又は負極と電気的に接続され、
前記同極集電体対向部は、前記電池ケースと反対の極の集電体露出部が捲回されて構成され、且つ、前記電極群の最外周部に設けられ、
前記電池ケースと前記同極集電体対向部との間には、絶縁層が設けられているリチウムイオン二次電池。 - 請求項2又は3において、
前記異極集電体対向部は、前記同極集電体対向部の内側に、前記セパレータを介して前記同極集電体対向部と反対の極の集電体露出部が形成されて構成されているリチウムイオン二次電池。 - 請求項1~4のいずれか1項において、
前記同極集電体対向部における前記同極集電体露出部は、捲回された前記電極群において3周以上5周以下の範囲に設けられているリチウムイオン二次電池。 - 請求項1~5のいずれか1項において、
前記同極集電体対向部における前記正極集電体露出部又は前記負極集電体露出部の総厚に対する前記リチウムイオン二次電池の容量の比は、40mAh/μm以上100mAh/μm以下であるリチウムイオン二次電池。
