Abstract

The main idea of the invention is a device for supporting a disabled person while opening/closing a door using energy from the able-bodied which is generated and stored while opening/closing this door before. This provides the society a possibility to support disabled persons in everyday life and in an anonymous way without affecting their susceptibility. The inventive device needs no external power supply or infrastructure which makes it particularly suitable for subsequent installation.

Description

DESCRIPTION
Supporting device for disabled persons FIELD OF INVENTION
The present invention relates to a device supporting disabled persons who have problems to open and close doors.
More specifically, the present invention is directed to wheelchair users.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION Disabled persons are obviously having problems with entering in or going out of the places which are not equipped
by automatic door systems. There are no doubts that every person with appropriate moralities would support disabled person by e.g. opening the door in front of him or her, however such action could offend the disabled person as an action' which stress the attention on the point that he or she is not able to do it by his own. The worse case is if there is no one around who is able to help. Automatic doors for common use and a Commander Automatic Door Opener is known e. g. from the product sheet of Savaria Concord Lifts Inc. - link to the product sheet:

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The main idea of the invention is a device for supporting a disabled person while opening/closing a door using energy from the able-bodied which is generated and stored while opening/closing this door before. This provides the society a possibility to support disabled persons in everyday life and in an anonymous way without affecting their susceptibility. The inventive device needs no external power supply or infrastructure which makes it particularly suitable for subsequent installation. DETAIL DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODYMEN (s)
The Figure shows a basic embodiment of the invention and depicts a door D with a mounted part of a device for
supporting a disabled person while opening/closing a door and a separate control unit RC for this disabled person.
This device has at least a generating device component 6 for receiving energy from the able-bodied while using the door, an appropriate energy reservoir S for storing this energy and an actuator A for opening/closing the door using energy from this reservoir and being controlled by the disabled person via the control unit RC.
In a preferred embodiment the generating device component 6 consists basically of a simple electric generator activated by the rotation of the door axis and the produced electrical energy is stored in an accumulator battery which serves as the reservoir S. The actuator A comprises of an electric drive supplied by the accumulator battery. However there are other embodiments of the invention, e. g. basically with a lever for receiving mechanical energy, a tension spring to save this mechanical energy and a lever using energy from the tension spring to support the disabled person while opening the door.
The control unit RC for the disabled person has at least a function to open the door on request. The request can be preformed in different ways - e. g. oy a simple remote control unit, a special button "door assistance" on a control panel of a wheel chair or even a smart card reader which will automatically detect if a "disabled person mark" on a smart card is active or not. A further embodiment additionally has a lock L for
locking/unlocking the door also using energy from the energy reservoir S and being also controlled by the control unit RC. Another embodiment of the invention is to have a lock with its own generator, energy reservoir and actuator using the same principal as the opening/closing device as a whole.
Certain amount of energy is produced during opening/closing the doors manually. Taking into account the typical
distribution or proportion between disabled persons and the rest of the society who are able to perform the described above action it can be assumed that the inventive device does not run out of energy, except maybe at very special places like hospitals etc. But most of these special places are equipped with automatic doors opening systems anyway.
While the invention has been disclosed in connection with preferred embodiments shown and described in detail, their modifications and improvements thereon will become readily apparent to those skilled in the art. Accordingly, the spirit and scope of the present invention should be limited only by the following claims.
