Abstract

The present invention relates to a household appliance (1) comprising at least one knob (4) having a body (2) and an indicator (3) mounted on the body (2).

Description

A HOUSEHOLD APPLIANCE
The present invention relates to a household appliance comprising a knob having an indicator situated thereon.
In household appliances, more than one knob is located on the panel that is situated on the body, that serves the user in selecting the program parameters. Indicators, showing the selection made by the user, are provided on the knobs that are actuated by being rotated.
The state of the art knob (1') comprises a body (2') and an indicator (3') that is placed on the body (2'). The indicator (3') is configured as a frame and is placed on the cut-out formed on the body (2'). The mounting of the indicator (3') on the body (2') is provided by the snap-fitting method. Since the indicator (3') is pressed down to be seated on the body (2') during the mounting of the indicator (3') on the body (2'), the problem of breaking the indicator (3') is encountered due to the thin structure of the indicator (3’). This situation results in increasing the amount of junk and hence in increasing production costs.
The aim of the present invention is the realization of a household appliance comprising a knob, the production cost of which is decreased.
The household appliance realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention, explicated in the first claim and the respective claims thereof, comprises at least one knob having a body and an indicator mounted on the body. The indicator comprises a support seated on the body and a cover that is placed on the support. Claws are situated on the base of the support. The support is provided to be fixed on the body by snap-fitting method by inserting the claws through the cut-outs located on the body. The cover is provided to be fixed on the support by inserting the protrusions located on the base of the cover into the openings situated on the support. Thus, the mounting of the indicator that has a double-pieced structure, that is the cover and the support, is realized on the body firmly.
In an embodiment of the present invention, a hole is arranged on the support that overlaps with the cut-out when the support is placed on the body. On the base of the cover, a leg is situated, that passes through the hole and the cut-out when the cover is placed over the support.
In an embodiment of the present invention, there is a housing that is situated on the body wherein the middle portion of the support base is seated and a skirt that surrounds the housing. There is a difference of level between the housing and the skirt.
In an embodiment of the present invention, a bearing is situated on the support wherein the cover is seated and a frame that surrounds the bearing. When the cover is seated on the support, the cover is surrounded by the frame.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the cover and the frame become coplanar when the cover is mounted on the support. Thus, a knob having an esthetic appearance is obtained.
In an embodiment of the present invention, an extension is situated on the bearing, the height of which is almost equal to the height of the frame. When the cover is placed on the bearing, the extension extends into the recess situated on the cover. The cover and the extension become coplanar when the cover is seated on the support. When the support is produced from material having different color or texture than the cover, the extension provides the indication of the parameter selected by means of the knob.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the household appliance is a cooking device.
In another embodiment of the present invention, the household appliance is a dishwasher.
In another embodiment of the present invention, the household appliance is a washing machine.
In another embodiment of the present invention, the household appliance is a laundry dryer.
By means of the present invention, the assembly operation of the knob, produced by joining three different parts, the cover, the support and the ring, is made easier and the workmanship time devoted for the assembly is shortened.

The household appliance (1) comprises at least one knob (4) having a body (2) and an indicator (3) mounted on the body (2). The user is enabled to select various program parameters by means of the knob (4).
The knob (4) comprises
  • a body (2) having at least one cut-out (5) situated thereon and
  • an indicator (3) that has a support (8) having a claw (6) situated on its base, each one bearing against one side of the cut-outs (5) by being inserted through a cut-out (5) by snap-fitting method, and a cover (10) having more than one protrusion (9) situated on its base, that is fixed on the support (8) by inserting the protrusions (9) into the openings (7).
During the assembly of the knob (4), the support (8) is provided to be seated on the body (2) by inserting the claws (6) through the cut-outs (5). When the claws (6) are inserted into the cut-outs (5), the support (8) is provided to be fixed on the body (2) by the walls of the claws (6) bearing against the sides of the cut-outs (5). The cover (10) is provided to be fastened on the support (8) when the protrusions (9) situated on the base of the cover (10) are seated into the openings (7) situated on the support (8). Thus, the assembly operation of the knob (4) is completed by fixing the body (2), the support (8) and the cover (10) to each other. The strength of the indicator (3), produced by joining two different parts, that is the support (8) and the cover (10), is increased. Thus, the production cost of the knob (4) is lowered by eliminating the problems like breakage due to strength that are encountered during the mounting of the indicator (3). Furthermore, by providing the body (2), the support (8) and the cover (10), produced separately from one another, to be produced in different colors and textures, visual variability is achieved for the knob (4) that is produced by joining these three parts.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the support (8) comprises at least one hole (11) that overlaps with the cut-out (5) when seated on the body (2). The cover (10) comprises at least one leg (12) that passes through the hole (11) and the cut-out (5) when placed on the support (8). When the cover (10) is placed on the support (8), the leg (12) provides the cover (10) to be fixed on the support (8) and the body (2) by passing through the hole (11) and the cut-out (5).
In an embodiment of the present invention, the body (2) comprises a housing (13) wherein the base of the support (8) is partially seated and a skirt (14) that surrounds the housing (13). The skirt (14) functions as a guide while the support (8) is being seated on the body (2). The configuration of the support (8) base matches the shape of the housing (13) and the skirt (14). When the support (8) is seated into the housing (13), the middle portion of the base of the support (8) is surrounded by the skirt (14).
In an embodiment of the present invention, the support (8) comprises a bearing (15) wherein the cover (10) is seated and a frame (16) that surrounds the bearing (15). The frame (16) functions as a guide while the cover (10) is being mounted on the support (8). The frame (16) surrounds the cover (10) when the cover (10) is seated on the bearing (15).
In an embodiment of the present invention, the cover (10) and the frame (16) become coplanar when the cover (10) is mounted on the support (8). Accordingly, the esthetic appearance of the knob (4) is improved. Furthermore, by preventing a gap from remaining between the frame (16) and the cover (10), accumulation of dirt and residue therebetween is prevented.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the support (8) comprises an extension (17) situated on the bearing (15), having almost the same height as the frame (16). The cover (10) comprises a recess (18) that is seated on the extension (17) so as to surround the extension (17) when seated into the bearing (15). When the cover (10) is fixed on the support (8), the extension (17) becomes coplanar with the cover (10). The extension (17) functions as a pointer on the cover (10) when the support (8) and the cover (10) are produced from materials having different colors and textures from one another.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the household appliance (1) is a cooking device.
In another embodiment of the present invention, the household appliance (1) is a dishwasher.
In another embodiment of the present invention, the household appliance (1) is a washing machine.
In another embodiment of the present invention, the household appliance (1) is a laundry dryer.
In the household appliance (1) of the present invention, the strength of the indicator (3) is increased, that is produced by joining the separate parts, that is the cover (10) and the support (8), together and cost advantage is provided in the production of the knob (4) by facilitating the mounting of the indicator (3) on the body (2).
It is to be understood that the present invention is not limited to the embodiments disclosed above and a person skilled in the art can easily introduce different embodiments. These different embodiments should also be considered within the scope of the claims of the present invention.

Claims (10)

  1. A household appliance (1) comprising at least one knob (4) having a body (2) and an indicator (3) mounted on the body (2), characterized by the knob (4) having
    - a body (2) having at least one cut-out (5) situated thereon and
    - an indicator (3) that has a support (8) having a claw (6) situated on its base, each one bearing onto one side of the cut-outs (5) by being inserted through a cut-out (5) by snap-fitting method and a cover (10) having more than one protrusion (9) situated on its base, that is fixed on the support (8) by inserting the protrusions (9) into the openings (7).
  2. A household appliance (1) as in Claim 1, characterized by the support (8) having at least one hole (11) that overlaps with the cut-out (5) when placed on the body (2) and the cover (10) having at least one leg (12) that passes through the hole (11) and the cut-out (5) when placed on the support (8).
  3. A household appliance (1) as in Claim 1 or 2, characterized by the body (2) having a housing (13) wherein the base of the support (8) is partially seated and a skirt (14) that surrounds the housing (13).
  4. A household appliance (1) as in any one of the above claims, characterized by the support (8) having a bearing (15) wherein the cover (10) is seated and a frame (16) that surrounds the bearing (15).
  5. A household appliance (1) as in Claim 4, characterized by the cover (10) that becomes coplanar with the frame (16) when mounted on the support (8).
  6. A household appliance (1) as in any one of the Claim 4 or 5, characterized by the support (8) having an extension (17) situated on the bearing (15), having almost the same height as the frame (16) and the cover (10) having a recess (18) that is seated on the extension (17) so as to surround the extension (17) when placed into the bearing (15).
  7. A household appliance (1) as in any one of the above claims, which is a cooking device.
  8. A household appliance (1) as in any one of the Claims 1 to 6, which is a dishwasher.
  9. A household appliance (1) as in any one of the Claims 1 to 6, which is a washing machine.
  10. A household appliance (1) as in any one of the Claims 1 to 6, which is a laundry dryer.
