Definitions

  • the present model refers to the technical field of feed additives for feed preservation, specifically to the use of Natamycin as an additive for silage production, which brings as novelty the application of a natural antimycotic agent produced by Streptomyces natalensis fungi. or Streptomyces gilvosporeus or others.
  • the model has the function of reducing fungal contamination and spoilage in corn, sorghum, sugar cane, other grass and legume silages and other plant species used for silage production, during fermentation and after the opening of the silos.
  • chemical and / or microbial additives are commonly found during the manufacture of forage plant silages.
  • Chemical additives contain chemical substances, usually salts of organic acids, to act on the metabolism of microorganisms present in silage.
  • Microbial additives contain strains of homolactic or heterolactic bacteria that produce organic acids during the anaerobic phase of the ensiling process. All models found are part of the same technical field, but are completely distinct from the proposed invention.
  • the present model was developed as an alternative to additives commonly used in silages as it is a natural antibiotic with specific action on yeast and unicellular fungi, without exerting negative effect on the growth of desirable fermentative bacteria in silages.
  • natamycin in the ensiling process reduces the activity of yeast in the ensiling process, avoiding ethanolic fermentation and ensuring greater stability of the silage after the opening of the silos.
  • Natamycin is already used in the human food industry, mainly sausages, but is not yet used in the production of fermented feed (silage).
  • the product is already approved and used in the preservation of food for human consumption;
  • the cost of production is compatible with the benefits that natamycin has on silage, such as reduced ethanol production and increased aerobic stability of silages; - is water soluble and extremely practical to use;

  • Natamycin is a natural antibiotic produced from culture of Streptomyces natalensis bacteria and / or other Streptomyces species. It has crystalline structure and empirical formula C33H47N013, and acts in association with ergosterol, 24 and 28-dehydroergosterol, and cholesterol, present in the membrane of molds and yeast, but absent in bacteria, making natamycin a potent antibiotic inhibitor. yeast and mold, but without effect on bacteria.
  • natamycin as an additive in silage production allows selective exclusion of undesirable microorganisms in the process, such as fungi, molds and yeast, without harming the growth of desirable bacteria, especially acid-lactic bacteria.
  • the operation is simple and practical, simply adding the additive containing natamycin in solid powder form, or preferably diluted with water and / or other solvent, during the silage preparation process, where the forage plant is minced, natamycin added and compacted. in a storage structure called silo, which silo may have variable shape and size.
  • the application of the natamycin-containing additive in solid or liquid or other form may be done manually or by means of implements developed for this purpose, such as watering cans, spray pumps, or others. Natamycin inhibits growth undesirable microorganisms during the aerobic and anaerobic phases of the fermentation process, as well as after the opening of the silos.
  • natamycin at dosages of 1 to 16 grams of natamycin per tonne of chopped forage, preferably between 2 and 8 g / t, more preferably between 4 and 6 g / t, becomes Fully efficient, practical and cost-effective means to improve quality and increase the nutritional value of forage plant silages by inhibiting and reducing undesirable microorganism populations, making inoculated silages more stable when exposed to air. For this reason, this technique should be well accepted by technicians and farmers in general, who use additives in the silage process.
