Description

Bi-fuel Injector with a double sealing Nozzle and two inlet Fittings for two separate feeding Lines .
The present invention relates to a particular kind of injector characterized by a sprayer with cylindrical conical double seal and two inlet connectors for two separated feeding lines able to allow the alternative injection of gas oil or gas, regarding two separated systems but converging in only one injection system.
Recently, it has increased the use of alternative fuels, generally the gaseous ones as for example methane or LPG or alternative fuels as biogas, syngas, and discharge gas, which are advantageous both from an economic point of view and from the one concerning the environmental sustainability . The need to implement powering systems where a gas feeding and a traditional feeding system are to be put together, such that the advantageous profiles deriving from them both are combined, thus eliminating the respective problems in the same way, has first lead to the introduction of bifuel systems where, considering the affinity of the injection system, an alternative petrol and gas powering system was used.
At the current state of the art there are also known dual fuel injection systems which provide an alternative gas oil and gas feeding system: the functioning -occurs, for example, by means of feeding methods which substitute a portion of gas oil regarding the principle injection with a determined quantity of gas, thus allowing the motor to maintain unchanged its performance and obtaining at the same time advantages in terms of consumption reduction and environmental impact (see the patent application n° WO2010/139572 , Method and Device for Powering a diesel Engine with dual Fuel feed) . More generally, these are dual fuel systems characterized by a first injection of the first fuel (gas oil) , to which, upon consensus of the control unit, a second injection follows with the second gaseous fuel: said injections giving place respectively to two combustion steps inside the motor (see the patent application N° WO 2011/002351 - Method for selecting between two operation Modes in a dual fuel internal Combustion Engine of the Diesel - Type and a dual fuel Combustion Engine of the Diesel - Type operable according to such Method, where the second combustion step can occur alternatively by compression starting an homogeneous charge (HCCI), that is by pre-mixed flame propagation) . In the field of said inventions concerning the dual fuel injection systems, however, the two different feeding systems which can be actuated alternatively by means of switch systems principally provided with electronic or more rarely mechanical control, are connected to separated injection systems, without considering the possibility of converging in only one injection system.
The advantage of the present invention lies just in the configuration of the possibility to allow two different systems to converge in a sole injector. Currently, the most fuel feeding systems are provided with direct injection wherein the fuel, arrived between nozzle and pin, under the effect of the pressure forces exerted on the pin causing its opening, goes out from the injection holes according to different modes depending on the kind of the fuel used (which in fact can be in the liquid or gaseous state) directly in the combustion chamber. The different passages concerning the injection procedure are, in most cases, subject to an electronic control as well.
As it results clearer from the description provided in the following, the present invention is made up of two different feeding systems, on the one hand the gas oil rail, on the other one the gas cylinder, intended to converge in only one injection system. For this reason, the nozzle is provided with two series of outflow holes, different in that they are gas oil or gas outflow holes; the switch for the feeding switching to the sprayer from the rail or cylinder occurs by means of an outer valve of the "two way - two positions" type, electronically controlled, which is arranged upstream of the feeding line of the sprayer.
Such system is possible by using a peculiar kind of cylindrical conical double seal sprayer, able to allow the alternative injection of gas oil as well as gas.
The injector is made up of two inlet connectors for two separated feeding lines, the one needed for feeding the sprayer and the other one for feeding control volume (pilot valve and actuator) .
The present invention will be described clearer in the following detailed description referring to table 1/1, which represents two different perspective views of the invention. In particular: Figure 1 shows a schematic representation of a side section of the sprayer;
Figure 2 represents an example map of the functioning scheme of the invention. According to the known technology for example of the electromagnetic injectors for "common rail" injection systems, the fuel injector object of the present invention comprises an approximately cylindrically shaped body; a sprayer comprising a nozzle and a pin; fuel feeding and discharging elements; an electromagnet piloted by the control unit for controlling an actuator assembly; an actuator assembly comprising a valve and a pressure bar able to unbalance the pressure forces acting on the pin of the sprayer. As it is shown in figures 1 and 2, the peculiarity of the injection device 1 object of the present invention is first the usage of a cylindrical conical double seal sprayer 5 able to allow the injection of gas oil and gas by means of a sole injection system.
On the nozzle 2, there are two different kinds of outflow holes that is those for the injection of gas oil 3 and the ones for the injection of LPG or methane 4 (figure 1) .
The switch between the two feeding systems is carried out by means of a outer valve 7 of the "two way - two positions" kind with electronic control 12, arranged upstream of the feeding line of the sprayer 5, which determines the feeding switching to the sprayer 5 alternatively from the rail of the gas oil 9 or gas cylinder 8 (figure 2) .
In case of option for the gas oil feeding, the system functioning is the same as the common diesel feeding systems, whereby a determined fuel quantity, arrived between nozzle 2 and pin 6, under the effect of the pressure forces causing the opening of the pin 6, goes out from the outflow holes 3 towards the combustion chamber of the motor. More specifically, a pump 13 of HPP type (High Pressure Pump) determines the passage of the gas oil from a tank 14 to the rail 9 and from this one to the injector 1.
In case of actuation of the switch, an electronic control system determines the shifting of ' the switching valve 7 thus making possible the feeding to the sprayer 5 from the gas cylinder 8.
As can be noted from figure 2, two separated feeding lines arrive to the two inlet connectors 15 of the injector 1, the one aiming at feeding the accumulation volume 10 and so the sprayer 5 and the other at feeding the control volume 11.
The injector and the respective injection system can use any type of liquid or gaseous fuel. In particular, without this being a limitation, the liquid fuel can be gas oil, biodiesel, fuel oil, refined and unrefined vegetal oil, bioethanol whil the gaseous · fuel can be LPG, methane, biogas syngas, discharge gas.
