Abstract

This invention relates to a stress or strain monitoring system and to a method for monitoring stress or strain in strata associated with a particular area. The system comprises at least a receiver module configured to receive strain data indicative of stress or strain associated with strata in an area being monitored; and a safety management module configured to firstly analyse the received strain data, and secondly generate an alarm at least if the received strain data is indicative of a dangerous stress or strain associated with strata in the area being monitored.
