Definitions
- the present invention generally relates to valves, and more specifically, to a needle valve which can be easily mounted to a panel without disassembling its main components.
- valves A known type of valves is one in which a valve member, or needle, is mounted on a valve body for axial movement along a valve closure axis into, and out of, a valve seat cavity. Flow passages, opening into the valve seat cavity, are formed in the valve body so that the valve can be closed by inserting the needle into the valve seat cavity and opened by withdrawing the needle from the valve seat cavity.
- US patent 3,761,052 discloses a flow plugger valve particularly suited for abrasive or corrosive fluids.
- the valve comprises a body with a generally conically shaped valve chamber and a seat insert removably positioned in the chamber.
- a bonnet member is removably connected to the body and has a cylindrical valve plug receiving opening axially aligned with the seat includes a first cylindrical section slidingly received in the opening an a conically shaped inner end portion adapted to enter and sealingly engage the seat insert.
- An actuating stem is threaded into the bonnet in axial alignment with the opening.
- the inner end of the stem is releasably and rotatably connected to the cylindrical end of the plug so that upon rotation of the stem, the plug can be moved toward and away from the seat.
- Seal ring means are carried by the cylindrical portion of the plug for sealingly engaging the walls of the opening.
- the seal ring means prevents fluids from passing from the valve chamber into the bonnet and seal both the stem-plug connection and the stem threads from the fluid.
- the seal ring means comprise an assembly of three ring members including a resilient O-ring positioned between two resilient washers. The inner washer acts as a wiping ring to clean the bore of abrasive particles and prevent wear on the O-ring.
- US patent 6,820,857 discloses a needle valve having a soft tip adapted for sealing an annular valve seat of a body port.
- the soft tip may be defined as two dissimilar circular rod sections of ductile plastic with the larger diameter having a conical taper. The soft tip is pressed into a mating hole in the metal portion of stem up to its annular seat. A thin metal tubular section of the metal stem is cold formed over the soft tip to retain it in place.
- the metal retainer secures the soft tip in the axial direction and limits the radial expansion of the soft tip while it is cold formed over the annular valve seat of the body port.
- the metal retainer also limits the axial movement of the stem to its maximum operating position. Under high axial forces, the soft tip does not rotate relative to the valve seat. A resilient high-pressure seal is achieved with this arrangement.
- This valve is also not planned to be mountable to a panel.
- the main problem with the existing needle valves is the also when they provide the ability to be mounted to a panel by a panel nut, a packing nut of the needle valve has to be removed.
- the removal of the packing nut influences of the packing material located within the valve, and as a result of that the valve has to be packed again by the manufacturer. If the user removes the packing nut by himself, the guarantee of the valve is automatically lost.
- the present invention discloses a needle valve.
- the needle valve comprises:
- a body having a laterally inwardly extending cylindrical body bore which defines a valve chamber, inlet and outlet flow passages connected to a middle portion of the body bore and extending from the exterior of the body inwardly to the valve chamber.
- An actuating stem threaded within the bonnet bore, axially aligned with the bonnet bore and the body bore.
- the stem having an end fitted to be received within the middle portion of the body bore.
- the stem is rotatable within the bonnet bore and the body bore to close the passage of flow between the inlet and outlet flow passages within the valve chamber.
- the packing bolt is having an outer diameter which is smaller than the inner diameter of the at least two panel nuts.
- the present invention also discloses a needle valve, wherein the at least two panel nuts are: ( ) a distance adjustment nut; and, (z ' z) a strengthening nut.
- the distance adjustment nut is adapted to adjust the distance between the inlet and outlet flow passages and the panel.
- the strengthening nut is adapted to strengthen the connection between the valve and the panel when the panel is between the distance adjustment nut and the strengthening nut.
- the present invention also discloses a needle valve, wherein the packing bolt is adapted to compress a packing material located between the packing bolt, the bonnet and the stem.
- the present invention also discloses a needle valve, wherein the stem further comprises a handle adapted to rotate the stem.
- the present invention also discloses a needle valve, wherein the handle is attached to the stem by screwing means.
- the present invention discloses a method for mounting a needle valve to a panel.

- the at least two panel nuts are: a distance adjustment nut; and, a strengthening nut.
- the distance adjustment nut is adapted to adjust the distance between the inlet and outlet flow passages and the panel.
- the strengthening nut is adapted to strengthen the connection between the valve and the panel when the panel is between the distance adjustment nut and the strengthening nut.
- the packing bolt is having an outer diameter which is smaller than the inner diameter of the at least two panel nuts.
- the method for mounting the needle valve to the panel is performed without removal of the packing bolt.
- 'needle valve' refers hereinafter to a valve that is opened by turning a stem with an end fitted to be received within the middle portion of the body bore inside the valve. When the valve is closed by said fitted end, flow inside the valve is blocked, and vice versa.
- 'diameter of a packing bolt' refers to a measure of a diameter of a circle which inscribes the outer perimeter of the head of a packing bolt.
- FIG. 1 is a schematic illustration of a cross-section of the needle valve.
- FIG. 2 is a schematic illustration of a right side point of view of the needle valve.
- FIG. 3a-3c is a schematic illustration of the needle valve and the method of mounting the valve to a panel.
- FIG. 4a-4b is a schematic illustration of the needle valve from the left and the right points of view, respectively.
- FIG. 1 schematically illustrates a cross-section of the needle valve 100 according to a preferred embodiment.
- the main element of needle valve 100 is body 10. This element has a laterally inwardly extending cylindrical body bore 12 which defines a valve chamber.
