Abstract

An elongate structural element (12) is provided in the form of a cross-bar for a balustrade (10), as well as a method for making the element and balustrades including the element. The structural element (12) has a hollow metal sheath (22) defining an inner cavity and a core (24) disposed inside the cavity. The core (24) is of a material that is different from that of the sheath (22), e.g. a different metal, a composite material, or the like.
