Abstract

The present invention provides a composition adapted to supply locally to the site of need in a patient in need thereof a compound having a pharmaceutical activity, wherein the active agent of said composition comprises an extract of Spilanthes oleracea. The composition is of particular use, for example, as an analgesic in providing rapid treatment of neuropathic pain and as a long-lasting anaesthetic. Compositions of the invention for buccal admininistration can preferably be in the form of lozenges, tablets or mucoadhesive gels.
