Endoprothese zur Implantation in den menschlichen oder tierischen KörperEndoprosthesis for implantation in the human or animal body
The invention relates to an endoprosthesis referred to in the preamble of claim 1 for implantation in the human or animal body.
Endoprostheses are well known and widely used as artificial joints implantable in the human or animal body. Here are the most widespread hip joint endoprostheses that form an artificial hip joint. The rate of in vivo degradation can be selected by appropriate choice of the composition of the magnesium alloy within wide limits.
The document proposes in particular magnesium alloys, which contain aluminum to a considerable extent. The object of the invention is to specify an endoprosthesis of the type mentioned in the preamble of claim 1, which has an optimized compatibility with respect to the organism into which the implant is introduced.
Dadurch, daß die erfindungsgemäß verwendeteThis object is achieved by the invention defined in claim 1. The invention, with a fortunate handle on the composition of the magnesium alloy, provides an endoprosthesis which, on the one hand, meets the requirements of strength and on the other hand has optimized compatibility with the organism in which it is incorporated. According to the invention, the magnesium alloy is substantially free of aluminum and essentially free of scandium. The fact that the magnesium alloy according to the invention, which is also referred to below as alloy for short, is substantially free of aluminum, the compatibility with respect to the organism in which the endoprosthesis is introduced is substantially increased. This is particularly the case because, according to the current state of science, aluminum is suspected of being lent or animal body to act toxic and in particular to cause or promote neurological damage. For example, aluminum is suspected of causing or promoting Alzheimer's disease. Characterized in that the invention used
Magnesium alloy does not contain aluminum or only in low mass contents, corresponding effects are avoided.
Under an aluminum-free magnesium alloy is thus understood according to the invention a magnesium alloy, the mass content of aluminum is substantially less than 1%. In particular, a magnesium alloy, which is free of an element in the context of the invention, means a magnesium alloy, in the production of which the element in question is not added, but for example and in particular on the basis of
Contaminants get into the alloy. However, such impurities are usually present in such a low mass content in the magnesium alloy that they do not adversely affect the properties of the magnesium alloy, in particular its mechanical properties and its compatibility with respect to the human or animal organism.
As strength-inducing elements, the magnesium alloy according to the invention contains yttrium and / or rare earths and / or zirconium. The fact that these elements are present simply or in combination with each other in the magnesium alloy, the strength properties of the magnesium alloy, in particular in terms of yield strength and tensile strength, which increases, so that the existing of the magnesium alloy implant according to the invention readily meets the mechanical requirements that are to be placed on such an implant.
As a result, the invention thus provides an endoprosthesis consisting wholly or partly of an in vivo degradable material which meets the requirements of its strength as well as the requirements for an optimized compatibility with respect to an organism in which the endoprosthesis is inserted is.
In this context, provide extremely advantageous developments of the invention that the mass content of yttrium in the alloy about 2 to 3% and / or the mass content of rare earths in the alloy about 3 to 4% and / or the mass content of
Zirconium in the magnesium alloy is about 0.4 to 0.7%, in particular greater than 0.5%. By appropriate choice of the mass content of the respective elements, the requirements for the strength of the implant as well as the requirements for compatibility are met to a very high degree at the same time. This is particularly the case when the mass content of the individual strength-inducing elements is within the aforementioned limits. By suitable choice of the mass contents, the speed of degradation of the magnesium alloy in the organism can be selected within wide limits.
Another advantageous embodiment of the invention provides that the magnesium alloy calcium and / or contains calcium phosphate or the body consists at least partially of or coated with calcium and / or calcium phosphate. With regard to an endoprosthesis, the use of calcium has the advantage that calcium is precipitated during the partial removal of the endoprosthesis and exhibits both an anti-inflammatory and a bactericidal action. Calcium phosphate has the advantage that it accelerates the healing or healing process by dissolving, creating voids. As the bone seeks to fill these cavities, calcium phosphate promotes bone growth. By adjusting the calcium content in the magnesium alloy, the rate at which the implant degrades in vivo can be adjusted.
Insofar as the magnesium alloy contains rare earth metal, the respective rare earth metal can be selected according to the respective requirements within wide limits. An extremely advantageous further development of the invention provides that the magnesium alloy contains neodymium or a neodymium compound, in particular a neodymium mixed metal, as the rare earth metal. In this embodiment, particularly favorable material properties result, in particular with regard to the strength of the endoprosthesis. This is especially true when a neodymium mischmetal consisting of, for example, neodymium (2 to 2.5%), terbium, erbium, dysprosium and gadolinium is used.
Another advantageous development of the invention düng provides that the magnesium alloy contains as rare earth terbium and / or erbium and / or dysprosium and / or gadolinium.
The shape, size and intended use of the endoprosthesis according to the invention are within wide limits selectable.
Another advantageous embodiment of the invention provides that the magnesium alloy contains lithium. By adding lithium, the rate of partial degradation of the endoprosthesis in the organism can be accelerated.
According to the invention, the endoprosthesis may consist entirely of the magnesium alloy. It is also possible for the endoprosthesis to consist, for example, in sections of the magnesium alloy, for example by one part of a shaft of the endoprosthesis consisting of the magnesium alloy, while other parts of the shaft consist of a different material. An advantageous development of the teaching according to the invention, however, provides that the base body is coated with the magnesium alloy.
The invention will be explained in more detail using an exemplary embodiment with reference to the accompanying highly schematic drawing. All the features described in the drawing and claimed in the claims, taken alone and in any combination with each other form the subject of the invention, regardless of their summary in the claims and their dependency and regardless of their description or representation in the drawing.
The single FIGURE of the drawing is a schematic side view of an embodiment of an endoprosthesis 2 according to the invention for implantation in the human or animal body in the form of a hip joint endoprosthesis. The endoprosthesis 2 has a shaft 4, which is used in the implantation of the endoprosthesis 2 into a femur becomes. At the proximal end of the shaft 4 is a pin 6 with a ball 8, which cooperates in the implanted state of the endoprosthesis 2 with a bearing cup used in the acetabulum. In the illustrated embodiment, the shaft 4 is provided in the region of its proximal end with a coating consisting of an in vivo degradable magnesium alloy.
According to the invention, the magnesium alloy is aluminum-free and scandium-free and has, as strength-inducing elements in the exemplary embodiment, yttrium and rare earths and zirconium. In the illustrated embodiment, the mass contents of the individual elements are as follows:
Yttrium 2 bis 3 % seltene Erden 3 bis 4 %Yttrium 2 to 3% rare earths 3 to 4%
Zirkonium 0,4 bis 0,7 % Magnesium RestZirconium 0.4 to 0.7% magnesium balance
In this way, the invention provides an endoprosthesis which not only meets the requirements of its strength properties, but also has an optimized compatibility with respect to an organism in which it is implanted.
