- the present invention aims to solve the problems of the prior art as described above and the technical problems that have been requested from the past.
- Still another object of the present invention is to provide a lithium secondary battery having improved safety using a cap assembly having improved safety.
- the cap assembly according to the present invention for achieving the above object is a cap assembly mounted on the open upper end of the can in a battery having a structure in which the electrode assembly is embedded in a cylindrical can, the predetermined notch is to be ruptured by the high pressure gas of the battery.
- a safety vent formed;
- a current blocking member coupled to the lower end of the safety vent by welding and blocking current when the battery breakdown voltage increases;
- the area is formed in the size of 20% to 50% of the total area of the current blocking member.
- the current blocking member is a member that ruptures when the pressure rises inside the battery to block the current.
- An upwardly protruding protrusion that is welded to the bottom of the indent of the safety vent is formed at the center thereof, and is connected to the anode of the jelly-roll.
- the positive lead may be a structure that is electrically connected through the bottom surface of the portion excluding the protrusion.
- the current blocking member is coupled to the safety vent to cut off the current while the connection portion between the current blocking member and the anode ruptures according to the shape reversal of the safety vent.
- the protrusion may have a notch formed on an outer circumferential surface thereof, and the protrusion is ruptured according to the shape reversal of the safety vent, and the protrusion is easily separated from the connection portion between the current blocking member and the anode in a state in which the protrusion is coupled with the safety vent. Can be.
- the current blocking member is formed with two or more through-holes for the upward movement of the gas, through which the internal gas of the battery rises to induce the shape reversal of the safety vent.
- the inventors have experimentally confirmed that, when the area of the through hole formed in the current blocking member is less than 20%, the rate at which the battery ignites or explodes when the high pressure inside the battery occurs is high. This is presumably because the amount of gas passing through the through hole is not effective, so that an effective disconnection is not achieved, or the upward movement path of the gas is blocked or changed, which results in a long time taken to cut off the current. On the other hand, if the size of the through-hole is too large, it is difficult to secure a predetermined strength, it is not preferable because the back-up phenomenon of the component occurs during processing.
- the current blocking member includes two or more through holes for discharging the gas and its total area is 20% to 50% of the size of the current blocking member, more preferably. It is formed in the size of 30% to 40%, so that the upward movement amount (emission amount) of the gas can be increased and the rapid upward movement (emission) of the gas can be induced.
- the gas when gas is generated inside the battery due to an overcharge or the like and the internal pressure increases, the gas may be quickly discharged to the outside of the battery due to power failure and the breakdown of the safety vent, thereby ensuring the safety of the battery.
- the through holes are preferably formed in an arc shape at a radially symmetrical position with respect to the center of the current blocking member. In this case, when the radially symmetrical position is formed, the gas discharge can be prevented from being excessively biased in one direction and the strength of the current blocking member itself can be secured.
- the number of the through holes is not particularly limited and may be preferably 2 to 4.
- the three through holes may have a circular arc shape having a length corresponding to the angular range of 50 to 80 degrees with respect to the center of the current blocking member and arranged at equal intervals.
- the protrusion may have a structure in which a bridge in which notches are formed by connecting the three to five through holes and the through holes in a concentric circle.
- the through-holes may be a structure that is arranged at equal intervals in an arc shape having a length corresponding to the angle range of 40 to 55 degrees with respect to the center of the current blocking member at a position corresponding to the through-holes. have.
- the safety vent is an element that ensures the safety of the battery by discharging the gas to the outside when the pressure inside the battery rises. For example, when gas is generated inside the cell and the internal pressure increases above the threshold, the safety vent ruptures, and the gas discharged to such a rupture portion is discharged to the outside through one or more gas outlets formed in the upper cap. Can be discharged.
- the safety vent may have a structure having a center indented downward.
- the downwardly indented shape in the center of the safety vent is reversed to an upwardly protruding shape, and is separated from the current blocking member to block the electrical connection.
- the gas generated inside the battery passes through the through-holes of the current blocking member to apply an upward pressure to the safety vent, a constant pressure (hereinafter, abbreviated as 'first critical pressure')
- 'first critical pressure' a constant pressure
- the indentation may be formed of an upper bending portion and a lower bending portion, and the upper bending portion may be preferably formed with a first notch.
- the lower bent portion has a narrow area, which is not suitable for effective gas release.
- a notch for rupture is formed at the upper bent portion, and the area to be cut is relatively large, so that a large amount of gas can be discharged quickly.
- the first notch may be cut off when the pressure continues to rise even above a certain level (hereinafter, abbreviated as 'second critical pressure') despite the current blocking of the safety vent, so that the pressurized gas inside the top cap It is smoothly discharged to the outside through the formed gas outlet.
- 'second critical pressure' a certain level
- the first notch may preferably have a structure of an open curve having one side open.
- the open portion of one side serves as a bridge between the indentation and the remaining portion except this in the safety vent.
- the size of the first notch is not particularly limited, the virtual circle connecting the center lines of the through holes formed in the current blocking member is preferably provided so that the gas moved upward from the current blocking member can directly press the first notch. It may have a size corresponding to the size.
- the opening of the first notch is a size that can prevent the indentation from being completely cut when the first notch is cut, as described above, preferably 20 to 50 degrees with respect to the center of the safety vent, more preferably.
- it can be formed with an arc length corresponding to an angle of 25 to 40 degrees.
- the cutout structure is preferably open at both ends facing each other so that the cutting phenomenon may occur only at the upper bent portion when the internal pressure rises. It may be made of. In this manner, the structure in which both ends are open prevents cutting of the lower bent portion and induces opening by cutting of the upper bent portion even when the battery internal pressure increases.
- Both ends opened at the second notch are preferably formed at a position that does not coincide with the opening portion of the first notch, and in a more preferred example, each is formed at a position of about ⁇ 90 degrees.
- the first notch may be formed to a depth deeper than the second notch so that it can be broken (cut) preferentially over the second notch.
- the safety vent is not particularly limited, but may be made of an aluminum sheet having a thickness of preferably 0.15 to 0.4 mm in order to have a rigidity that can be ruptured (cut off) by an increase in the internal pressure of a critical value or more.
- the current blocking member gasket has a structure surrounding an outer circumferential surface of the current blocking member, and in a preferred embodiment, may be a structure having an opening formed in the center thereof. At this time, in order for the upward movement of the internal gas to be efficiently performed, it is preferable that the movement path of the pressurized gas is straight, so that the central opening may have a shape that does not block the through hole of the current blocking member.
- the gasket has a shape partially covering the through hole of the current blocking member, so that the high pressure gas passing through the through hole is interrupted by the gasket, thereby reducing the discharge and changing the path, thereby making it difficult to induce immediate operation of the safety vent.
- all of the high pressure gas passing through the through hole may reach the safety vent directly, thereby further securing the safety of the battery.
- the through-hole of the current blocking member, the opening of the gasket for the current blocking member, and the notch of the safety vent may be formed in a position that communicates in a straight line.
- the high-pressure gas is concentrated because the gas path can be maintained in a straight line in the process of moving the high-pressure gas generated from the inside of the battery through the through hole of the current blocking member and through the center opening of the gasket to the notch of the safety vent. Can be moved up quickly. Therefore, it is possible to induce immediate operation of the safety vents to ensure the safety of the battery.
- the cap assembly according to the present invention may further include a member such as a PTC element (positive temperature coefficient element) that blocks the current by increasing the battery resistance significantly when the temperature inside the battery rises.
- a member such as a PTC element (positive temperature coefficient element) that blocks the current by increasing the battery resistance significantly when the temperature inside the battery rises.
- the cap assembly is composed of a laminated structure of a current capping member, a gasket for the current blocking member, a safety vent, a PTC element, and a top cap formed with one or more gas outlets, the gasket is additionally mounted on the outer peripheral surface of the laminated structure It may be a structure.
- the PTC device may be interposed in close contact with the top cap and the safety vent.
- the present invention provides a cylindrical battery including the cap assembly and the electrode assembly (jelly-roll) of the anode / separator / cathode structure.
- the cylindrical battery is manufactured by accommodating a jelly roll in a cylindrical can, injecting an electrolyte solution into the cylindrical can, and then coupling an upper cap having an electrode terminal to an open upper end of the can.
- the top of the jelly-roll may be equipped with a plate-shaped insulating member having an opening punched in the center and one or more through-holes drilled around it for gas discharge and connection of electrode terminals. have.
- the through hole of the plate-shaped insulating member is preferably formed in a size and position that is in direct communication with the center opening of the current blocking member gasket and the through hole of the current blocking member. Therefore, the through hole of the plate-shaped insulating member may be formed in a size of 20% to 50% of the area of the plate-shaped insulating member.
- the insulating member is not particularly limited as long as it is an insulating material.
- the insulating member may be a polypropylene resin.
- the high-strength polypropylene resin is particularly preferable because it exhibits excellent mechanical rigidity at the same thickness ratio, thereby preventing the movement and short-circuit of the jelly-roll during application of a strong external impact.
- the jelly-roll has a structure in which a cathode, a cathode, and a separator are sequentially stacked and wound in a round shape, and a cylindrical center pin is inserted into its core (center of the jelly-roll).
