Abstract

Title:A Dynamically Calibrated Self Referenced Three Dimensional Structured Light Scanner Abstract Adynamic calibrating, structured light 3D scanner is described that employs a pre scanned geometry of the scanning scene. First a pre-scan is made of an object or scene that is to be scanned. Scanning is performed by sweeping the projection device's pattern over the object or scene in a controlled fashion within the known space coordinate margins. In a second scan the object or scene is scanned again with the projection device. But now the projection device sweeps the pattern from numerous and different angles and directions in which the reflected pattern on the object or scene within the camera's field of view. The pre-scan data acts as a reference of known geometry that well approximates the actual geometry of the object. This allows the orientation and position of the projection device from each camera image from the secondscan to be derived based on the curvature of the reflected pattern on the camera image superimposed pre-scan geometry. As the orientation and position of the projection device can be derived by this approach so toocan the 3 dimensional positions of each point of the reflected pattern on the object be derived for each image.
