Abstract

The present invention relates to a method (800) and a system for processing image data. A method (800) according to the invention comprises using lens characteristics and user inputs for each of a plurality of separate colors to generate an inverse map of pixel locations in an output image onto pixel locations in an input image (810). The image data is separated into the plurality of color planes, and then the inverse map is used to copy the value of the pixel at each location in the input image to the corresponding location in the output image (800). The image planes are recombined, resulting in an image that has been corrected for lateral chromatic aberrations, as well as pincushion/barrel distortions. Further, user entered values allow the image to be panned and zoomed (812). The correction calculation takes place in a single step, eliminated errors caused by multiple correction calculations.
