Description

"PANEL FOR FURNISHING ELEMENTS AND METHOD TO MAKE SAID PANEL"
FIELD OF THE INVENTION The present invention concerns a panel for furnishing elements and the relative method to make said panel.
In particular, the panel according to the present invention is able to be used, preferably but not exclusively, to make for example hanging bookshelves, shelves, or shelving or other similar or comparable furnishing elements. BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
In the furnishing field, it is known to use panels made of wood material, or wood substitutes such as for example MDF, compressed chipboard or other similar material, in order to make furnishing elements such as for example hanging bookshelves, shelves or shelving or other similar or comparable elements.
One disadvantage of such known panels is that they have a limited load capacity, both vertical and horizontal, which determines more or less accentuated warping phenomena.
Due to these warping phenomena, said known panels, if they are large size, need supporting bars to obviate this phenomenon, with all the costs that this entails.
Another disadvantage of known panels is that, with time, they are not structurally stable, as they are easily subject to deformations deriving for example from environmental humidity. Therefore, the known panels are associated so as to achieve the furnishing elements by means of numerous screws and are supported by bars and/or supporting frames so as to confer on the structure the necessary rigidity.
Furthermore, these known panels are intrinsically heavy and therefore, when used to make hanging furnishing elements, need a multiplicity of attachment hooks in order to guarantee the correct and secure attachment of the structure to the wall.
Purpose of the present invention is to achieve a panel for furnishing elements which is light, stable over time and with a greater load capacity than that of known panels.
The Applicant has devised, tested and embodied the present invention to overcome the shortcomings of the state of the art and to obtain these and other purposes and advantages. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The present invention is set forth and characterized in the independent claims, while the dependent claims describe other characteristics of the invention or variants to the main inventive idea.
In accordance with the above purposes, a panel according to the present invention is used to make furnishing elements.
According to a characteristic feature of the present invention, the panel comprises at least two layers, superimposed, in which the first layer comprises first elements adjacent and directed in a first direction and the second layer comprises second elements adjacent and directed in a second direction, substantially at an angle with respect to the first direction.
Advantageously, the panel comprises a third layer, positioned above the second layer, provided with third elements adjacent and directed in a third direction at an angle with respect to said second direction.
According to an advantageous feature of the present invention, an odd number of superimposed layers is provided, so as to confer on the panel a more balanced mechanical resistance to flexion.
According to another advantageous feature of the present invention, said first, second and third elements comprise strips made of wood material.
According to another advantageous feature of the present invention, the wood material comprises poplar wood.
This wood is extremely light and stable over time and is also easily found and easily worked.
According to another advantageous feature of the present invention, said superimposed layers comprise first covering layers associated respectively with the lower and upper surface of said layers.
According to another advantageous feature of the present invention, the panel comprises second covering layers associated with the lateral surface of said superimposed layers. The orientation of the strips that make up the layers in reciprocally angled directions confers on the panel mechanical characteristics of resistance to traction and a load capacity, both in a substantially longitudinal direction to the panel and also in a direction substantially transverse to said panel, as much as 25%-30% more than that of a known panel.
The panel thus made is light, strong and structurally stable, and is therefore particularly suitable to perform structural functions and to make self-supporting structures for furnishing elements such as for example hanging bookshelves.
The panel is particularly suitable to be used therefore as a vertical element for bookshelves with shelves that can be positioned freely.
The panel according to the present invention is also able to be used to make furnishing elements having a development in length that is greater than those normally used by means of known panels, and without needing to have recourse to the aid of numerous attachment elements, such as screws, and/or supporting bars and/or elements, such as backs, in order to confer the necessary structural rigidity.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
These and other characteristics of the present invention will become apparent from the following description of a preferential form of embodiment, given as a non-restrictive example with reference to the attached drawings wherein:
- fig. 1 is a three-dimensional cutaway view of a panel according to the present invention.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF A PREFERENTIAL FORM OF
EMBODIMENT With reference to fig. 1, a panel 10 according to the present invention is used to make furnishing elements, such as hanging bookshelves, shelves, shelving or other similar or comparable elements.
The panel 10 comprises a first layer or lower layer 11, comprising a plurality of first strips 12, a second layer or intermediate layer 13, positioned above the first layer 11, comprising a plurality of second strips 14, and a third layer or upper layer 15, positioned above the second layer 13, comprising a plurality of third strips 16.
The strips 12, 14, 16 of each layer 11, 13, 15 are substantially the same size, they are made of wood material, advantageously poplar, are disposed adjacent and parallel and, preferably but not exclusively, are glued to each other by glues of a known type.
The first strips 12 of the lower layer 11 are directed, in this case, in a direction substantially orthogonal to a transverse axis X of the panel 10.
According to a variant, not shown, the strips 12 are directed substantially in a direction that forms an angle equal to about 45° with the transverse axis X.
According to another variant, not shown, the first strips 12 are directed substantially in a direction that forms an angle comprised between about 45° and about 90° with the transverse axis X.
According to a preferential embodiment the second strips 14 and the third strips 16 are directed in such a manner that the fibers or veins of each strip are disposed transversely, that is, substantially orthogonal, to the fibers or veins of the strips respectively of the lower layer 11 and the intermediate layer 13. In a first form of embodiment the strips 12, 14, 16 have the same thickness.
According to a variant the second strips 14 of the intermediate layer 13 advantageously have a thickness equal to twice the thickness of the third strips 16 of the upper layer 15.
According to another variant the second strips 14 of the intermediate layer 13 advantageously have a thickness equal to 1.5 times the thickness of the third strips 16 of the upper layer 15.
The thickness of the strips 12, 14, 16 can vary in any case according to the intended use of the panel 10.
The individual layers 11, 13, 15 are associated with each other, for example but not only, by means of glues of a known type, suitable for the purpose.
The three layers 11, 13, 15 are disposed between two first covering layers 18, 19, or enhancing layers, having characteristics of aesthetic embellishment, associated respectively with the two surfaces 1 1a and 15a, respectively lower and upper, of the superimposed layers 11, 13, 15 and opposite them. The first covering layers 18, 19 are advantageously made of MDF or other similar or comparable material. The first layers 18, 19 have a thickness comprised between about 2 mm and about 6 mm, advantageously between 3 mm and 4 mm.
According to a variant, the first layers 18, 19 are made of multi-layer material - S -
and have a thickness comprised between about 1 mm and about 5m, advantageously between 2 mm and 3 mm.
The panel 10 also comprises second covering layers 20, 21, made of multilayer material, associated with the flanks of the three layers 11, 13, 15, having a thickness comprised between about 1 mm and about 6 mm, advantageously between 2 mm and 4 mm.
The panel 10 according to the present invention is made by means of an extremely simple and rapid method, as described hereafter.
The lower layer 11 is made by placing side by side a plurality of strips 12 directed in a first direction forming an angle substantially comprised between about 45° and about 90° with the transverse axis X.
Subsequently the intermediate layer 13 is made, by superimposing and associating with the lower layer 11 a plurality of strips 14, directed in a second direction substantially at an angle with respect to the first direction such that the fibers or veins of each strip 14 are disposed transversally, that is, substantially orthogonal, to the fibers or veins of the strips 12 of the lower layer.
Then the upper layer 15 is made, by superimposing and associating with the intermediate layer 13 a plurality of strips 16, directed in a third direction substantially at an angle with respect to said second direction and such that the fibers or veins of each strip 16 are disposed transversally, that is, substantially orthogonal, to the fibers or veins of the strips 14 of the intermediate layer 13.
Panels of the desired shapes and sizes can be made from the three layers thus combined by means of direct cutting operations in a parallel direction, and/or oblique direction according to an angle varying between about 1° and about 10°, with respect to the direction of the strips of the lower layer 11 and/or the upper layer 15.
Then, for example by means of the prior interposition of a layer of glue, the respective covering layers 18, 19 are associated with the two surfaces 11a and 15 a, respectively of the lower layer 11 and the upper layer 15. Subsequently, the second covering layers 20, 21 are associated with the flanks of the three layers 11, 13, 15.
The panel 10 thus obtained can finally be subjected to treatments to finish the covering layers 18, 19, 20, 21, such as varnishing or polishing. It is clear that modifications and/or additions of parts may be made to the panel for furnishing elements and the method to make said panel as described heretofore, without departing from the field and scope of the present invention.
It is also clear that, although the present invention has been described with reference to some specific examples, a person of skill in the art shall certainly be able to achieve many other equivalent forms of panel for furnishing elements and the method to make said panel, having the characteristics as set forth in the claims and hence all coming within the field of protection defined thereby.
