Abstract

Disclosed are a phosphor having high quantum yield, and a method for producing such a phosphor. Specifically disclosed is phosphor composed of a nanoparticle which is produced by mixing and heating (a) a solution wherein there are dispersed fluorescent nanoparticles, which are composed of a first compound having a chalcopyrite structure and composed of elements selected one each from group I elements, group III elements and group VI elements, and (b) a solution wherein a metal salt is dissolved, thereby substituting an element constituting the fluorescent nanoparticles with the metal element of the metal salt. The quantum yield of the phosphor is 10-40% at room temperature. The phosphor particle emits fluorescence having a wavelength of 550-800 nm.
