Abstract

In a navigation device, setting-history information storage means stores information on a setting history of a destination set by a user desiring guidance. When a vehicle starts to travel with no destination set, destination setting means automatically searches for an optimal candidate point based on information on the vehicle in travel and on the information on the setting history and sets the point as a destination. Then, route search means searches for a route to the destination automatically set by the destination setting means. Thus, the construction enables the navigation device to automatically set a destination. Because a user does not need to set a destination before departure etc. by using search and other functions, the device eliminates the need for the user to perform complex destination setting and helps reduce time of idling of the engine in a parking lot etc.
