Abstract

Provided is an organic EL element which can be easily manufactured and has excellent light emitting characteristic and lifetime characteristic. A method for manufacturing such organic EL element is also provided. The organic electroluminescence element is provided with an anode, a light emitting layer, a cathode, and a metal oxide layer arranged between the anode and the light emitting layer or between the light emitting layer and the cathode. The metal oxide layer is obtained by (A) a step of obtaining an untreated metal oxide layer by depositing a metal oxide on other layer constituting the element, and (B) a step of exposing the untreated metal oxide layer under oxygen containing atmosphere. A method for manufacturing such organic electroluminescence element is also provided.
