Abstract

[PROBLEMS] To prevent occurrence of segregation in a casting piece effectively even in case of a wide casting piece. [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] When a casting piece (1) having a rectangular transverse plane is cast continuously, thickness central portion of the casting piece having a central solid phase rate fs at least in the range of 0.1-0.9 is lightly depressed continuously such that the depression rate of the casting piece (1) in the thickness direction falls within 1% per 1m of the length in the casting direction and, at at least one position where the central solid phase rate fs is in the range of 0.1-0.9, the opposite short side surfaces of the casting piece (1) are hammered continuously in the width direction of casting piece at a hammering vibration frequency of 4-12 Hz with vibration energy of 30-150J using a die (3) arranged between adjoining pinch rolls (2a, 2b). Even in case of a wide casting piece, occurrence of segregation such as central segregation or V segregation is prevented effectively and a casting piece of good internal quality can be obtained.
