Abstract

Disclosed is a near infrared light-emitting phosphor nanoparticle which has high luminous intensity in spite of its extremely small particle diameter. This near infrared light-emitting phosphor nanoparticle is suitable for agents for labeling biological substances. Also disclosed are a method for producing such a near infrared light-emitting phosphor nanoparticle, and an agent for labeling biological substances using such a near infrared light-emitting phosphor nanoparticle. Specifically disclosed is a near infrared light-emitting phosphor nanoparticle having an average particle diameter of 2-50 nm, which emits a near infrared light having a wavelength within the range of 700-2000 nm when excited by a near infrared light having a wavelength within the range of 700-900 nm. This near infrared light-emitting phosphor nanoparticle is characterized in that at least a part of its composition is represented by a specific composition formula, and it is produced by passing a raw material thereof dissolved in a solvent through a microchannel, thereby heating, drying and firing the raw material dissolved in the solvent.
