Definitions

  • MIXING AND MINCING AUGER in the name of: STORTI INTERNATIONAL S.P.A. of BeIf iore (Italy)
  • This invention refers to an auger designed to be installed preferably on mixing and chopping wagons.
  • it describes an auger with blades shaped in order to achieve increasingly effective cutting results with less force.
  • Mincing wagons such as, for example, chopping wagons for forage, are well-known. These generally consist of a self-propelled or towed bin with shafts installed internally on its bottom. These shafts have one or more augers designed to mix and chop the forage that is introduced into the bin.
  • Mincing wagons usually have augers placed horizontally that cut, chop and mix the forage thanks to their rotary motion, aided by a counterblade placed, for example, on the bottom of the bin.
  • Augers of the known type may have a single helicoidal shaped blade fastened to the rotary shaft or, alternatively, they may include several blades keyed on the rotary shaft in a position that is inclined with respect to the axis of rotation of the shaft, so as to create a kind of split-up helicoidal blade.
  • blades have, on their outermost edge, one or more knives to cut and chop the product.
  • the blades are separated from each other (to permit the product to be chopped to pass through) so that the shaft exerts less force compared to that imparted by a shaft with a single helicoidal blade:
  • the blades that are basically in the central part of the auger are those that work the hardest and, thus, are those that are most worn.
  • these blades which are also inclined, exert thrust on the product in a direction opposite the thrust exerted by the adjacent blades or by one of the two most extreme portions of the auger.
  • the blades of the central part of the auger are strengthened using known types of means of reinforcing and the rotation speed of the auger is limited to moderate values. This necessarily increases the time required to properly cut and sufficiently chop the product.
  • the object and function of this invention is to decrease the force to which the blades of a auger are subjected, and in particular the blades of the central part, and make the auger more efficient by eliminating the above-mentioned problems of the known technique.
  • a auger preferably for chopping-mixing wagons, consisting of a rotary shaft with H axis and at least one blade, including a portion keying on the rotary shaft with, joined to it, a free terminal portion.
  • Said keying portion is placed in a plane that is inclined with respect to a plane at right angle to the H axis of said shaft, with the keying portion having a first cutting edge and the terminal portion having a second cutting edge.
  • the auger is characterized by the fact that said free terminal portion of at least one blade is inclined with respect to the keying portion.
  • the entire cutting edge of the blade is active, even though it is placed in two different directions: the cutting edge of the keying portion and the cutting edge of the terminal portion of the same blade lie on a same cylindrical surface.
  • each blade with the free portion that is inclined with respect to the keying portion has an inclination ranging between -5° and 5° with respect to the plane at right angle to the H axis.
  • the blades having the terminal portion with this inclination, that is to say preferably at right angle to the H axis of the shaft, are placed in the basically central portion of the auger so that they make in that area of the auger a cut perpendicular to the H axis and simultaneously decrease thrust on the product towards the blades present in the adjacent portion of auger, which exert thrust in the opposite direction.
  • the blades of the central portion having the free terminal portion that is inclined with respect to the keying portion on the shaft, may include ribbing or another means of reinforcing to strengthen the structure of the blade.
  • the object of the invention may have seats to house the knives.
  • these seats are a thru-hole, basically circular, open towards the outer edge of the blade thanks to a slot. In this way it is both faster and easier to install and fasten the knives and it is also less costly to manufacture the blades because all that is necessary is a shearing process and not a drilling process to be performed after the shearing process.
  • these knives can have a quadrangular-shaped edge with at least one of the edges having a corrugated profile and at least one of the remaining edges having a straight profile.
  • fig. 1 is a side view of a auger, the object of the invention
  • fig. 2 is an enlarged view of the basically central portion of the auger in fig.
  • fig. 3 is a cross-section view of the auger according to plane A-A in fig. 2; fig. 4 is an axonometric view of a blade in the central portion of the auger in fig. 2;
  • figures 5, 6, and 7 are, respectively, front, top and side views of a knife that can be installed on the blades of the auger, the object of the invention.
  • numbers 10 to indicate an auger comprising rotary shaft 20 which may be installed, for example, on the bottom of a mixing and chopping wagon. Blades 12, 14, 16 and 18, four different types in terms of size and/or shape, are keyed on shaft 20.
  • Helicoidal shaped blade 18 according to a first type of blade, is fastened to one end of shaft 20 and, precisely, to the right end of the shaft shown in figure 1.
  • Seven blades 16, shaped according to a second type of blade, are fastened to shaft 20 after helicoidal blade 18.
  • the shaft connection portion of these blades 16 lies in a plane that is inclined with respect to a plane at right angle to the H axis of shaft 20.
  • Blades 16 have a flat shape; more precisely, each one lies entirely in a single plane equivalent to the connection plane to the shaft.
  • Blades 16 which follow one after the other, are lengthwise spaced by constant pitch D and angularly spaced at an angle between 125° and 135° and preferably approximately 130°.
  • blades 12 shaped according to a third type of blade, are placed after the blades 16, basically in the central portion of auger 10, from right to left in figure 1. As shown in figures 1 and 2, blades 12 also have the connection portion to shaft 20 lying in a plane that is inclined with respect to a plane at right angle to the H axis of shaft 20.
  • each blade 12 comprises, joined together, a first portion 22 keying on shaft 20 and a second portion, or free end, 24.
  • Each blade 12 is consequently a single body which, during manufacture, is bent along a bending area as shown in the figures with reference 23.
  • Portion 22 lies in an inclined plane corresponding to the plane of connection to the shaft whereas free end 24 is inclined with respect to portion 22 and lies in a plane that is inclined with respect to a plane at right angle to the H axis of shaft 20, by an angle ranging between -5° and 5°.
  • each free end 24 lies in a plane basically at right angle to H axis of shaft 20.
  • keying portion 22 includes a first cutting edge 32, whereas free portion 24 includes a second cutting edge 34, shown in figures 3 and 4.
  • blades 12 The shape and the dimensions of blades 12, the position and orientation of the related bending line 23 and also the related inclination of free portion 24 with respect to keying portion 22 are such that the first cutting edge 32 and the second cutting edge 34 of each blade 12 lie on the same cylindrical surface. In this way blades 12, while having portions that are inclined with respect to each other, have their entire own edge in action.
  • Blades 12 which follow one after the other, are lengthwise spaced by constant pitch E and angularly spaced by an angle ranging between 125° and 135°, preferably approximately 130°. Pitch E of blades 12 is greater than pitch D of blades 16 in order to further decrease the force exerted on blades 12.
  • the terminal part of auger 10, to the right of the central portion corresponding to blades 12, comprises five blades 14 shaped according to a fourth type of blade. These blades 14 are smaller in size compared to the other blades 12 and 16 and have their own connection portion to shaft 20 lying in a plane that is inclined with respect to a plane at right angle to the H axis of shaft 20, similar to the other blades 12 and 16.
  • blades 14, like blades 16, have a flat shape whereby each one, more precisely, lies in a single plane equivalent to the connection plane to shaft 20.
  • the blades of auger 10, and in particular blades 12 of the central part of the auger have reinforcing ribbing (not shown in the figures) which strengthens the blades, in particular in the connection area between free end 24 and keying portion 22.
  • Each blade included in auger 10 herein described has seats 28 for fastening suitable cutting knives. More precisely, as shown in figure 4, blades 12, 14 and 16 have slots 30 spaced one from the other on the outermost edge (figure 4, for sake of simplicity, shows only one slot). The innermost part of slot 30 terminates in circular seat 28 in which a cutting knife is fastened.
  • Slot 30 makes it possible to install the blades more easily and quickly and above all, during manufacturing, it is easier to machine an opening for fastening the blade during the same process as when shearing the blade rather than first shearing the blade and subsequently having to machine the holes.
  • Blades 12, 14 and 16 can install knives of the known type or, alternatively, use special knives as shown in figures 5, 6 and 7.
  • Blades or knives 101 have a quadrangular lens shaped form meaning, in other words, that they have two opposite sides 103 and 105 having a straight shape and the other two opposite sides, 102 and 104, having a corrugated shape.
  • the knives can be adjusted meaning they can be rotated depending on the cutting edge to be used. Should the worker decide to make a more aggressive cut he uses one of the two corrugated edges 102 or 104 or, vice versa, for a less aggressive cut he uses one of the two straight edges 103 or 105.
