Abstract

　広範囲な色表現が可能な偏光膜に有用である主に短波長領域に吸収を有する異方性膜用アゾ化合物を提供する。 　膜中における最大吸収波長が、下記式（１）で表される波長λ(ｋ)ｎｍよりも短いアゾ化合物であって、分子の主吸収軸と分子長軸のなす角度θが１．５度以下を有する異方性膜用アゾ化合物。 （式（１）中、定数Ａ、Ｂ、Ｃ、Ｄ及びδλは、以下の値を有する。 　　　Ａ＝－１８．０６９ 　　　Ｂ＝４０．６４５ 　　　Ｃ＝０．７９７６４ 　　　Ｄ＝－２．０７９３ 　　　δλ＝６７ 　ｋは、アゾ化合物分子の長短軸比を表す。）
