Abstract

It is proposed to construct a fire detector (14) from a gas sensor (6) on a micromechanically produced low-power substrate (1). The gas sensor is operated in the thermopulse method, wherein short heating phases and longer cold phases alternate. In the cold phases the heating resistor (4) of the sensor can be used as a sensor for the ambient temperature. The thus constructed gas sensor enables the detection of the ambient temperature as a fire characteristic simultaneously with gas measurements, without a dedicated temperature sensor being necessary for this purpose. The invention also relates to an air quality sensor which operates in an analogous manner.
