Abstract

Provided is a backlight device which illuminates a liquid crystal display panel from the rear surface by using a light emitting diode as a light source. A light emitting diode line is composed of a plurality of light emitting diodes linearly arranged, and a plurality of the light emitting diode lines are arranged at prescribed intervals on a backlight substrate. The backlight device is provided with a divided region setting means for dividing the whole screen of the backlight substrate into a plurality of divided regions and discretionarily setting the size of the divided region.
