Description
METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR RESERVATION RECODING
OF BROADCASTING PROGRAM
Technical Field
[1] The present invention relates to a digital broadcasting system, and more particularly, to a reserved recording method and system by which when a user requests reserved recording information, the user can check broadcasting programs capable of being reserved-recorded or broadcasting programs incapable of being reserved-recorded, and by which a solution allowing the broadcasting programs incapable of being reserved- recorded to be reserved-recorded is suggested. Background Art
[2] In digital broadcasting (DB), a broadcasting station compresses a broadcasting signal, for example, an image and audio information, into a digital signal and transmits the digital signal.
[3] In existing analog broadcasting, a single image is carried on a single electric wave and transmitted in the form of an analog signal. Since a transmitter (for example, a broadcasting station) and a receptor are far away from each other or the analog signal is sensitive to external noises, the intensity of the analog signal gradually decreases. Thus, in existing analog broadcasting, information loss is great. However, in DB, a plurality of images or audio and broadcasting information are compressed and carried on an electric wave and transmitted in the form of a digital signal. Thus, information loss is rare in such DB. Therefore, in the DB, the recoverability of the broadcasting signal is high, and many pieces of information may be transmitted at once, whereby high-quality, multi-channel, and various additional data services are provided.
[4] A digital broadcasting system receives a broadcasting signal by using a digital broadcasting receiver (for example, a settop box (STB)), recovers the broadcasting signal into an image signal and an audio signal, and reproduces an image signal and an audio signal on a display device. The STB is a control device that can perform broadcasting reception and various other additional functions, and is used in next- generation bidirectional multimedia communications. The STB receives a broadcasting signal (that is, a digital image signal or an analog signal) transmitted via a transmission medium such as an air wave (for example, a terrestrial wave), a cable, a satellite, or a superhigh- speed network, and decodes the broadcasting signal into a signal that can be recognized by a display device (for example, a TV or a monitor).
[5] A conventional STB has a main function of receiving a broadcasting signal transmitted by a specific broadcasting provider. However, with a recent trend toward digitalization of broadcasting, a conventional STB further includes various other functions such as bidirectional data communication and a personal video recorder (PVR) function. A PVR is a next-generation recorder that can receive a broadcasting signal (for example, a digital image signal or an analog signal) in real time and store (i.e., record) the broadcasting signal in a storage device (for example, a hard disk).
[6] When a user registers reserved recording information (for example, a broadcasting hour, a broadcasting program title, etc.) about one of a plurality of broadcasting programs on the basis of broadcasting information transmitted in real time together with a broadcasting program, that is, on the basis of a recent broadcasting schedule list, such a PVR may transform a broadcasting signal of the broadcasting program, which is received for a certain period of time, into a digital signal and record (that is, store) the digital signal in a storage device (for example, a hard disk).
[7] With increases in the number of broadcasting channels and the number of broadcasting programs, an interest in a reserved recording system that allows users to watch a specific broadcasting program at a desired time according to users' selections and tastes, that is, provides a customized broadcasting service, is increasing.
[8] In existing reserved recording systems, if a user makes a reserved recording request, information about programs for which reserved recording has already been registered (that is, set) or information about broadcasting hours is provided to the user. Such registration (that is, setting) of reserved recording in existing reserved recording systems may be performed by a user directly inputting reserved recording information via an input device (for example, a remote controller) or setting (or uploading) reserved recording information in a web server by using a data processing device, such as a PC, and by the web server setting the reserved recording information in a STB.
[9] However, according to such an existing reserved-recording registering method, when a user newly sets reserved recording, since the user receives information about programs for which reserved recording has already been registered, the user needs to personally determine whether a program desired to be newly reserved-recorded can be reserved-recorded, by directly analyzing the information about the pre-registered programs. In other words, the user is highly demanded to know whether a desired program can be reserved-recorded and how the existing reserved recording registration has to be changed so that the desired program can be reserved-recorded. Instead, the user is not highly demanded to know what programs are pre-registered reserved- recording programs. The highly demanded demand may be increased when a plurality of broadcasting programs can be recorded at the same time zone because a plurality of broadcasting reception tuners are included in a digital broadcasting receiver (for example, a STB).
[10] Therefore, there is a demand for a reserved recording method and system by which programs for which reserved-recording setting is possible or impossible are easily checked and a method of easily adding a reserved recording item is provided. Disclosure of Invention
Technical Problem
[11] The present invention provides a reserved recording method and system by which programs incapable of reserved-recording setting and/or programs capable of reserved- recording setting are easily checked and a reserved recording item is easily added.
Advantageous Effects
[12] A reserved-recording system according to the present invention display information about broadcasting programs incapable of being reserved-recorded and broadcasting hours of the broadcasting programs and/or information about broadcasting programs capable of being reserved-recorded and broadcasting hours of the broadcasting programs, before registering reserved recording information about a broadcasting program. The displayed information about broadcasting programs and broadcasting hours are obtained based on pieces of previously registered reserved-recording information. Therefore, a user may simply set the reserved-recording information without needing to compare pieces of broadcasting information about a plurality of broadcasting programs with one another. In addition, if a broadcasting program selected by a user is incapable of being reserved-recorded, the reserved-recording system display change information used to change pre -registered reserved-recording information in order to register reserved recording information of the selected broadcasting program. Therefore, the user can simply change the reserved recording information of the selected broadcasting program. Brief Description of the Drawings

Mode for the Invention
[28] The attached drawings for illustrating preferred embodiments of the present invention are referred to in order to gain a sufficient understanding of the present invention, the merits thereof, and the objectives accomplished by the implementation of the present invention. Hereinafter, the present invention will be described in detail by explaining preferred embodiments of the invention with reference to the attached drawings. Like reference numerals in the drawings denote like elements.
[29] FIG. 1 is a block diagram of a schematic structure of a digital broadcasting system according to an embodiment of the present invention. FIG. 2 is a schematic functional block diagram of a reserved recording system according to an embodiment of the present invention. Referring to FIGS. 1 and 2, the digital broadcasting system may include an input device 17, at least one settop box (STB) 13, a broadcasting station 15, and a display device 11 such as a digital TV. The input device 17 may transmit reserved recording information about a broadcasting program selected by a user to the at least one STB 13. The reserved recording information may include at least one piece of information from among information about a broadcasting channel, information about a broadcasting program title, and information about a broadcasting hour. A recording setting apparatus according to an embodiment of the present invention may be implemented by being included in at least one of the STB 13 and a server 14 connected to the STB 13 via a wire/wireless network.
[30] For example, the recording setting apparatus may be implemented by a combination of a processor included in a STB, such as a central processing unit (CPU), and a predetermined firmware for driving the processor. When the recording setting apparatus is included in the STB 13, the STB 13 stores the reserved recording information received from the input device 17 (for example, a remote controller, a mobile terminal capable of interfacing with the STB 13, a computer, or the like) and records a broadcasting program corresponding to the reserved recording information.
[31] A user may output a user request signal (for example, signals corresponding to playback, pause, repetition, reserved-recording information input, etc.) to the STB 13 via the input device 17 so as to control the functions of the STB 13. When the input device 17 is implemented outside the STB 13, the input device 17 may be a mobile terminal, such as a remote controller, a PDA, a PC, and a cellular phone, which can remotely communicate with the STB 13.
[32] When the recording setting apparatus is included in the server 14 that can be connected to the STB 13 via a network (for example, the Internet), the recording setting apparatus may be implemented by a combination of a predetermined hardware included in the server 14 and a predetermined software for performing a technical spirit of the present invention. In this case, the input device 17 may be any data processing device that can interface with the server 14 such as a computer. For example, users may connect their computers to the server 14 which provides a service related with digital broadcasting, and thus register reserved-recording information in the server 14 by using their computers instead of using an inconvenient input interface such as a remote controller. Then, the server 14 may transmit the reserved recording information registered by the users to the STB 13 through a communication with the STB 13. As such, when the recording setting apparatus is implemented in the server 14, reserved recording information stored in the STB 13 and that stored in the server 14 may be synchronized with each other, or synchronized with each other at an interval of a predetermined time period. Then, users are able to check from the server 14 information about programs on which the users are able to perform reserved recording and/or programs on which the users are unable to perform reserved-recording. In this case, since only the information about the programs on which the users are able to perform reserved-recording may be transmitted to the STB 13, a data processing load of the STB 13 may be reduced.
[33] An input device that inputs reserved recording information may be different from an input device that requests a reserved-recording check. For example, a user may input reserved recording information to the STB 13 by registering the reserved recording information in the server 14, and may request a reserved-recording check through a remote controller or a user'scomputer. Of course, the input device that inputs the reserved recording information may be the same as the input device that requests the reserved-recording check.
[34] The reserved recording information may be input by a plurality of users by using different input devices 17. For example, a user may input first reserved-recording information to the STB 13 by using a first input device, and another user may input second reserved-recording information to the STB 13 by using a second input device after checking pre-registered reserved-recording information. It may be easily inferred by one of ordinary skill in the art that redundant reserved-recording requests can be handled using various methods according to embodiments of the present invention.
[35] Various display devices such as a digital TV, a monitor, and a user computer may be used as the display device 11. The display device 11 may be included in the input device 17. For example, when the input device 17 is a mobile terminal of a user, the display device 11 may be a display device included in the mobile terminal. The broadcasting station 15 compresses images and audio information associated with a broadcasting program and EPG information into a single broadcasting signal (or a digital image signal) and transmits the broadcasting signal via a transmission medium such as an air wave (for example, a terrestrial wave), a cable, a satellite, or a superhigh- speed network. Thus, a broadcasting station in the specification should be interpreted as a meaning including all kinds of media that transmit broadcasting programs.
[36] Referring to FIG. 2, the STB 13 may include a CPU 21, a ROM 23, a RAM 25, a signal processing unit 35, a storage medium, for example, a hard disk 37, a first tuner unit 31, and a second tuner unit 33. In the specification, a system including two tuner units will be illustrated for convenience of explanation. However, the present invention is not limited to this illustration.
[37] The CPU 21, which is a device for controlling the entire system, controls a series of operations performed by the STB 13 according to an input/output signal. The ROM 23 stores a driving program (for example, a firmware for performing a technical spirit of the present invention) for performing an operation such as recording/reproduction. The RAM 25 stores a user request signal such as reserved-recording information, a playback signal, and a pause signal received from the input device 17, and also stores data that is temporarily generated during program execution.
[38] Each of the first and second tuner units 31 and 33 receives a corresponding digital image signal from among a plurality of digital image signals. The STB 13 may simultaneously receive respective broadcasting signals of two different broadcasting programs which overlap with each other in terms of a broadcasting hour, via the first and second tuner units 31 and 33. The number of broadcasting signals that the STB 13 can receive simultaneously may be the same as the number of tuner units included in the STB 13.
[39] The signal processing unit 35 may restore the broadcasting signals received from the first and second tuner units 31 and 33 to digital signals and output the digital signals to the display device 11 or store the digital signals in the storage medium, for example, the hard disk 37. If information stored in the hard disk 37 is desired to be reproduced, the signal processing unit 35 may read a digital signal of a corresponding broadcasting program from the storage medium, for example, the hard disk 37, in response to a reproduction signal, and output the digital signal to the display device 11.
[40] Electronic program guide (EPG) information may be separated from the images and the audio information by the signal processing unit 35 and the CPU 21, and displayed as a menu screen on the display device 11 or the input device 17 at a user's request, for example, in response to a broadcasting schedule check request. The STB 13 may collect the EPG information not only from a data stream received from a broadcasting station but also via an Internet network. The EPG information may be provided to a user together with a predetermined interface, when the user desires reserved recording.
[41] As described above, when the recording setting apparatus is implemented in the server 14, the reserved recording information may be received by the STB 13 via the server 14. In this case, reserved recording information input by a user through the input device 17 is registered in the server 14. The STB 13 may update reserved recording information set therein with the reserved recording information registered in the server 14, by communicating with the server 14 in real time. Therefore, the reserved recording information registered in the server 14 may be synchronized with the reserved recording information set in the STB 13 in real time.
[42] For example, a user may register reserved recording information of a first broadcasting program via the input device 17 (for example, a PC). Then, the server 14 may determine whether the first broadcasting program can be reserved-recorded, based on pieces of reserved recording information which are synchronized with reserved recording information stored in the STB 13. If reserved recording is possible for the first broadcasting program, the reserved recording information of the first broadcasting program may be transmitted to the STB 13 and set therein. On the other hand, if reser ved recording is impossible for the first broadcasting program, recommendation information may be provided to a user according to the technical spirit of the present invention which will be described later. In other words, when the recording setting apparatus is included in the server 14, the server 14 can provide information about possibility or impossibility of recording and recommendation information to the STB 13, before reserved recording information is transmitted to the STB 13. Therefore, the STB 13 does not perform processes related with reserved recording, and thus a load of the STB 13 may be reduced. In addition, even when the STB 13 is turned off, possibility or impossibility of the reserved recording may be checked directly by the server 14.
[43] On the other hand, when the recording setting apparatus is included in the STB 13, the recording setting apparatus may receive the reserved recording information from the input device 17 via the server 14 or receive the reserved recording information directly from the input device 17. Then, the recording setting apparatus may provide information about the possibility or impossibility of the reserved recording to a user according to the technical spirit of the present invention. If the reserved recording is impossible, recommendation information may be provided to the user.
[44] A case where the recording setting apparatus is included in the STB 13 will now be described, but the present invention is not limited to this case.
[45] FIG. 3 is a flowchart of a reserved-recording method according to an embodiment of the present invention. The STB 13 may receive a reserved-recording check request signal in operation Sl, and display recording check information on the display device 11 in operation S3.
[46] The reserved-recording check request signal may be a signal that represents a request for display of programs capable of being reserved-recording and/or programs incapable of being reserved-recorded. The request is made by the input device 17 in a recording setup mode which is provided by the STB 13. The reserved-recording check request signal may be a signal corresponding to an EPG information request which is simply input by a user during broadcasting watching. In other words, various cases where recording check information according to an embodiment of the present invention is displayed may exist according to embodiments of the present invention. For example, even when a user outputs an EPG information request signal to the STB 13 in order to check EPG information irrespective of reserved recording setting, the STB 13 may display the recording check information according to an embodiment of the present invention. Consequently, the reserved-recording check request signal may be interpreted as a meaning including all signals that allow the STB 13 to display the recording check information.
[47] The recording check information may be used as a meaning including all pieces of information that can represent programs capable and/or incapable of being reserved- recorded according to an embodiment of the present invention. The recording check information is generated based on pieces of previously-registered reserved-recording information and includes at least one piece of information from among information about broadcasting programs incapable of being reserved-recorded, information about an hour when reserved recording is impossible, information about broadcasting programs capable of being reserved-recorded, and information about an hour when reserved recording is possible. The recording check information may include at least one of a color, an image, and a text. In the reserved-recording method according to an embodiment of the present invention, recording check information of programs incapable of being reserved-recorded or recording check information of programs capable of being reserved-recorded is displayed so that at least one of the color, the image, and the text is displayed in a form different from a form in which broadcasting information about the remaining broadcasting programs is displayed. Consequently, a user can easily distinguish the remaining broadcasting programs from the programs incapable of being reserved-recorded or the programs capable of being reserved- recorded. A method of displaying recording check information will now be described with reference to FIGS. 4 and 5.
[48] FIG. 4 illustrates an example of an EPG screen for illustrating a reserved-recording method according to an embodiment of the present invention. FIG. 5 illustrates an example of an EPG screen for illustrating a reserved-recording method according to another embodiment of the present invention. Referring to FIGS. 4 and 5, when a user requests a reserved recording check through an input device, the STB 13 may display screens as illustrated in FIGS. 4 and 5. FIG. 4 illustrates display of programs incapable of being reserved-recorded, and FIG. 5 illustrates display of programs capable of being reserved-recorded. In the specification, display may be used as a meaning including execution of an operation of transmitting information to be displayed to a display device and controlling the information to be display on the display device.
[49] In FIG. 4, a news program 1 has already been set to be reserved-recorded, and thus a predetermined mark (for example, ® may be displayed for the news program 1. A movie program 2 may be a program capable of being reserved-recorded. If a baseball program 3 is a program incapable of being reserved-recorded, the baseball program 3 may be displayed in a form different from that in which programs capable of being reserved-recorded or programs for which reserved recording has already been set are displayed. For example, On Screen Display (OSD) interfaces representing different types of programs may have different colors.
[50] For example, in the reserved-recording method illustrated in FIG. 4, only an interface corresponding to a program incapable of being reserved-recorded, that is, the baseball program 3, may be displayed in red. Of course, interfaces corresponding to programs other than the program incapable of being reserved-recorded may be displayed in different colors. Alternatively, the program incapable of being reserved-recorded may be displayed using an image, an icon, a symbol, a text, etc. other than the color as long as the program is distinguished from programs capable of being reserved-recorded and the other broadcasting programs.
[51] In the reserved-recording method illustrated in FIG. 5, an interface corresponding to a program capable of being reserved-recorded, that is, the movie program 2, may be displayed in blue, and interfaces corresponding to programs incapable of being reserved-recorded and the other broadcasting programs may be displayed in colors other than a blue color. Accordingly, users can easily check and determine information about broadcasting programs capable of being reserved-recorded and/or broadcasting programs incapable of being reserved-recorded.
[52] Referring back to FIG. 3, the user may select at least one first broadcasting program from among a plurality of broadcasting programs on the basis of the recording check information by using the input device 17 or transmit first reserved recording information corresponding to the first broadcasting program by using the input device 17, thereby requesting reserved recording of the first broadcasting program, which is desired to be reserved-recorded, in operation S5.
[53] Since the first broadcasting program is selected by the user based on the recording check information, the first broadcasting program may be a program capable of being reserved-recorded. However, according to a user's selection, the first broadcasting program may be a program incapable of being reserved-recorded. In this case, the recording setting apparatus according to an embodiment of the present invention may provide information (that is, change information) about a solution that allows reserved recording to be set for the first broadcasting program. To provide the information about the solution, the STB 13 may determine whether the first broadcasting program is capable of being reserved-recorded, on the basis of the first reserved recording information and pieces of previously registered reserved-recording information or the recording check information, in operation S7.
[54] If the first broadcasting program is one of broadcasting programs incapable of being reserved-recorded, reserved recording information corresponding to the first broadcasting program is not registered in the STB 13. If reserved recording of the first broadcasting program is impossible, the STB 13 may display change information which is predetermined information used to allow the first broadcasting program to be reserved-recorded, on the display device 11, in operation S9.
[55] The change information includes information used to delete or change pre-registered reserved-recording information of at least one of a plurality of broadcasting programs. Thus, the change information may include all types of information that a user can set in order to allow the first broadcasting program to be reserved-recorded. The change information may be rebroadcasting information about the first broadcasting program or the pre-registered broadcasting programs. The rebroadcasting information is obtained based on external EPG information, for example, external broadcasting schedule in- formation. Of course, the EPG information may include information that allows a real broadcasting to be distinguished from a rebroadcasting.
[56] If pre-registered reserved-recording information pieces and the first reserved recording information corresponding to the first broadcasting program are set in the STB 13 through different input devices 17 and registration of the first reserved recording information is impossible, the STB 13 may provide a method of protecting the pre-registered reserved-recording information pieces input by different input devices and also reserved-recording the first broadcasting program. In other words, only change information (for example, rebroadcasting information about only the first broadcasting program) that a user can set in order to allow the first broadcasting program to be reserved-recorded is displayed. The displayed change information does not include information used to delete or change broadcasting programs for which reserved recording has already been set, from a reserved-recording list. Therefore, the STB 13 may protect pieces of pre-registered reserved-recording information from being deleted or changed by other unauthorized users. A policy about reserved- recording programs preferentially protected when reserved recording is impossible, that is, a priority, may be a priority of users, a priority based on an input priority, etc., according to embodiments of the present invention.
[57] Consequently, the reserved-recording method according to the present invention may suggest a solution that allows at least one piece of reserved recording information from among existing reserved-recording information pieces to be changed or deleted, if the reserved recording of the first broadcasting program is impossible. For example, it is assumed that reserved recording has already been set for both a broadcasting program A and a broadcasting program B for a predetermined period of time (hereinafter, referred to as a reserved-recording impossible time period). If a user requests a reserved recording check, the STB 13 may display information about the reserved- recording impossible time period or information about a program having the reserved- recording impossible time period in a predetermined form. On the contrary, the STB 13 may display information about a reserved-recording possible time period or information about a program having the reserved-recording possible time period in a predetermined format. In addition, in the reserved-recording method according to the pre sent invention, the STB 13 may simultaneously display one of the information about the reserved-recording impossible time period and the information about the program having the reserved-recording impossible time period and one of the information about the reserved-recording possible time period and the information about the program having the reserved-recording possible time period, in different formats.
[58] However, the first broadcasting program that a user desires to be additionally reserved-recorded may be a program including the reserved-recording impossible time period. Then, in the reserved-recording method according to the present invention, information used to change or delete reserved recording setting for the broadcasting program A may be provided to the user via a predetermined interface (for example, an OSD). Of course, information used to change or delete reserved recording setting for the broadcasting program B may be provided to the user via a predetermined interface (for example, an OSD).
[59] Moreover, in the reserved-recording method according to the present invention, re- broadcasting information about at least one of the broadcasting program A, the broadcasting program B, and the first broadcasting program may be provided to the user. The rebroadcasting information may be found from EPG information which is received an external source (for example, a broadcasting station or an Internet network) and stored in a predetermined storage device. Therefore, the user may reserved-record the desired first broadcasting program by changing or adding at least one rebroadcasting program from among the broadcasting program A, the broadcasting program B, and the first broadcasting program to a reserved recording program.
[60] Of course, if the selected rebroadcasting program is also a reserved-recording impossible program, change information may be provided to the user again. If the user selects a method of allowing the first broadcasting program to be reserved-recorded, on the basis of the receive change information, the STB 13 may perform change processing according to the selected method in operation SI l, and reserved recording of the first broadcasting program may be set in operation S 13. On the other hand, if it is determined in operation S7 that the reserved recording of the first broadcasting program is possible, the STB 13 may store the first reserved recording information, in operation S 13.
[61] FIG. 6 is a flowchart of a reserved-recording method according to an embodiment the present invention. FIG. 7 illustrates the reserved-recording method according to an embodiment the present invention illustrated in FIG. 6. FIGS. 8 and 9 are conceptual block diagrams illustrating storage of a plurality of pieces of reserved recording information according to an embodiment the present invention.
[62] Referring to FIGS. 6 through 9, first, when a user selects a first broadcasting program from among a plurality of broadcasting programs, the input device 17 may transmit first reserved recording information used to record the first broadcasting program, for example, a title, a channel, a broadcasting hour, etc. of the first broadcasting program, to the STB 13, in operation S21. Then, the STB 13 may store the first reserved recording information and set reserved recording for the first broadcasting program, in operation S23.
[63] Next, when the user selects a second broadcasting program from among the plurality of broadcasting programs, the input device 17 may transmit second reserved recording information corresponding to the second broadcasting program to the STB 13, in operation S25. Then, the STB 13 determines whether the second broadcasting program is capable of being reserved-recorded, based on the first and second reserved recording information, and stores the second broadcasting program and sets reserved recording for the second broadcasting program, if it is determined that the second broadcasting program is capable of being reserved-recorded, in operation S27.
[64] For example, if the STB 13 includes two tuners, at least two broadcasting programs are capable of being reserved-recorded regardless of reserved recording information. Thereafter, when there is a reserved-recording check request from the input device 17 in operation S29, the STB 13 may transmit, to the input device 17 or the display device 11, recording check information including at least one piece of information from among information about broadcasting programs capable/incapable of being reserved- recorded and/or information about broadcasting hours when reserved recording is possible/impossible, in operation S31. Then, in operation S33, the input device 17 or the display device 11 may display the recording check information including the at least one piece of information from among the information about broadcasting programs capable/incapable of being reserved-recorded and/or the information about broadcasting hours when reserved recording is possible/impossible.
[65] For example, if the STB 13 includes two tuners, the broadcasting hour when reserved recording is impossible is a first section tl of FIG. 7 where the first and second reserved recording information pieces overlap with each other, and the broadcasting programs incapable of being reserved-recorded have broadcasting hours that are at least partially overlapped by the first section tl.
[66] As described above, in the reserved-recording method, the recording check information obtained based on existing reserved-recording information pieces may be displayed before reserved recording information about a broadcasting program is registered. Therefore, a user may simply check whether a program desired to be reserved-recorded is capable of being reserved-recorded, without needing to compare pieces of information about broadcasting programs to be reserved-recorded with one another.
[67] When the user selects a third broadcasting program from among the plurality of broadcasting programs by referring to the recording check information, the input device 17 transmits third reserved recording information corresponding to the third broadcasting program to the STB 13, in operation S35. In operation S37, the STB 13 may check possibility or impossibility of reserved recording of the third broadcasting program on the basis of the first, second, and third reserved recording information and/ or the recording check information.
[68] If the third broadcasting program is a program incapable of being reserved-recorded, the third reserved recording information of the third broadcasting program cannot be registered in the STB 13. Therefore, if reserved recording of the third broadcasting program is impossible, the STB 13 may transmit change information including methods that can be selected to store the third reserved recording information of the third broadcasting program, to the input device 17, in operation S39. In operation S41, the STB 13 may display the change information on the display device 11.
[69] For example, the change information may include at least one piece of information from among information about deletion or change of the first reserved recording information, information about deletion or change of the second reserved recording information, and information about cancellation of the third reserved recording information. The change information may be rebroadcasting information about at least one of broadcasting program corresponding to the first, second, and third reserved recording information, wherein the rebroadcasting information is obtained based on EPG information which isreceived from an external source (for example, a broadcasting station or an Internet network) and stored in the STB 13. In other words, in the reserved-recording method, at least one of broadcasting programs whose reserved-recording information pieces are overlapped with each other is set to be recorded in a time zone different from time zones when the other broadcasting programs are recorded, and thus the third broadcasting program incapable of being reserved-recorded and the first and second broadcasting programs can be all recorded.
[70] The change information may also be change information associated with a broadcasting schedule about the first, second, and third reserved recording information and reserved recording information of at least one broadcasting program for which reserved recording has been cancelled, wherein the change information is obtained based on received EPG information. In other words, in the reserved-recording method, if the reserved recording information corresponding to the reserved recording cancellation is stored and then the reserved recording information is able to be registered due to a change in a broadcasting schedule, corresponding change information may be displayed in real time.
[71] In operation S43, the user changes the reserved recording information of one of the first, second, and third broadcasting programs in response to the change information. As such, in the reserved-recording method, if the third broadcasting program is incapable of being reserved-recorded, change information used to change pre- registered reserved-recording information is displayed in order to register the reserved recording information of the third broadcasting program. Therefore, the user can simply set the reserved recording information of the third broadcasting program.
[72] On the other hand, if the third broadcasting program is capable of being reserved- recorded, the third reserved recording information is set side by side with reserved- recording information in which a broadcasting ending time is close to a broadcasting starting time of the third broadcasting program from among the first and second reserved recording information. In other words, a tuner unit used so that the third broadcasting program can be reserved-recorded may be set.
[73] For example, if a recording start time of the third broadcasting program is close to a recording ending time of the first broadcasting program, as illustrated in FIG. 8, the third reserved recording information is set side by side with the first reserved-recording information. Thus, the first broadcasting signal and the third broadcasting signal are consecutive received via the first tuner unit.
[74] If a recording start time of the third broadcasting program is close to a recording ending time of the second broadcasting program, as illustrated in FIG. 9, the third reserved recording information is set side by side with the second reserved-recording information. Thus, the second broadcasting signal and the third broadcasting signal are consecutive received via the second tuner unit. Accordingly, the reserved-recording method according to the present invention may secure a margin for a space where reserved-recording information of other broadcasting programs can be registered,
[75] The STB 13 may determine whether reserved recording is possible, in various methods. For example, if the STB 13 including a recording setting apparatus includes two tuners, registration or non-registration of reserved recording for three or more broadcasting programs may be checked at the same time by newly input reserved- recording information. Moreover, the change information may also be generated in various methods, and this may be easily inferred by one of ordinary skill in the art.
[76] Reserved recording methods according to embodiments of the present invention can also be embodied as computer readable codes on a computer readable recording medium. The computer readable recording medium is any data storage device that can store data which can be thereafter read by a computer system. Examples of the computer readable recording medium include read-only memory (ROM), random- access memory (RAM), CD-ROMs, magnetic tapes, floppy disks, optical data storage devices, and carrier waves (such as data transmission through the Internet). The computer readable recording medium can also be distributed over network coupled computer systems so that the computer readable code is stored and executed in a distributed fashion. Also, functional programs, codes, and code segments for accomplishing the present invention can be easily construed by programmers of ordinary skill in the art to which the present invention pertains.
[77] While the present invention has been particularly shown and described with reference to exemplary embodiments thereof, it will be understood by those of ordinary skill in the art that various changes in form and details may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the following claims. Industrial Applicability
[78] The present invention is applicable to broadcasting STBs or broadcasting servers.
