Abstract

A drill bit (10) that includes a boss (30) extending rotationally forward of at least one blade (24) thereof in a gage region (23) of a bit body for increasing stability and reducing impact shock caused by a lateral imbalance force acting on the bit while drilling a subterranean formation is disclosed. The boss (30) includes a circumferential bearing surface (22) that rotationally precedes a circumferential bearing surface of the at least one blade (24). A drill bit that includes a boss (30) having a nozzle port (32) extending therein is also disclosed.
