Abstract
複数の参照ブロックを用いて予測ブロックを生成し符号化を行う場合の符号化効率を向上させる。動画像符号化装置は、符号化済みフレームから抽出した複数の参照画像を用いて符号化対象ブロックの予測画像を生成して符号化対象ブロックとの差分値を符号化する画面間予測符号化を行う。動画像符号化装置は、予測方法候補生成部120、予測画像生成部、可変長符号化部108を備える。予測方法候補生成部120は、符号化対象ブロックに関わる所定の情報に基づいて予測方法の候補を生成し、予測画像生成部は、生成された予測方法の候補に基づいて符号化対象ブロックの予測画像を生成する。可変長符号化部108は、生成された予測画像を用いて画面間予測符号化を行う場合、予測方法候補生成部120が生成した予測方法の候補の数が2以上の場合に、上記予測画像の生成に使用した予測方法を符号化する。
