Abstract

Disclosed is a method for producing a hydroxyalkyl (meth)acrylate, which is characterized in that a reaction solution having a residual (meth)acrylic acid ratio of 0.5-3% by weight is prepared by reacting a (meth)acrylic acid and an alkylene oxide in the presence of a chromium compound as a catalyst, and then the chromium compound is recovered from the thus-obtained reaction solution and the recovered chromium compound is reused as a catalyst in a reaction between a (meth)acrylic acid and an alkylene oxide. A hydroxyalkyl (meth)acrylate obtained by this production method is useful, for example, for thermosetting coating materials, adhesives, fiber treating agents and copolymer modifying agents.
