Abstract

 放電灯や白熱灯のいずれに対しても最適の条件で点灯させることができる照明ランプ点灯装置。この点灯装置は、DC―DCコンバータとこの出力を交流電力に変換してこれを照明負荷に印加するインバータと、交流電力から高圧パルスを発生させてこれを照明負荷に出力する始動回路と、DC―DCコンバータ及びインバータを制御してそれぞれ可変のDC電圧と可変周波数の交流電力を出力させるコントローラを備える。コントローラは、インバータを始動周波数で駆動させて高圧パルスを発生させる始動モードと、インバータを始動周波数よりも低い点灯周波数で駆動させる点灯モードを有する。コントローラは、始動モードでの動作前にDC―DCコンバータから所定レベルの検知DC電圧を出力させる検知モードと、この検知モードの後にインバータを始動モードに引き続いて点灯モードで動作させる放電灯点灯プログラムと、この検知モードの後に、始動モードを介さずに点灯モードに移行させる白熱灯点灯プログラムとを有する。検知DC電圧が所定の閾値を超えた時には、コントローラが放電灯点灯プログラムを選択し、そうでない場合は、白熱灯点灯プログラムを選択する。白熱灯の接続時は、高圧パルスを印加させることなく白熱灯を点灯させることができて白熱灯の寿命の低下を無くす。
