Abstract

Provided is a power converter having a safety shutdown circuit which can interrupt a PWM signal without using a mechanical contact switch such as a contactor for input and output. A safety shutdown circuit (50) is arranged between a gate driving circuit (11), which drives an inverter section (12) that converts a direct current into an alternating current, and a PWM generating circuit (1), which generates a PWM signal (2) to be transmitted to the gate driving circuit (11). The safety shutdown circuit is composed of external power shutdown terminals (7, 8) and PWM signal shutdown circuits (5, 6) which interlock with the external power shutdown terminals (7, 8) and interrupt one of the PWM signals (2, 3). When the external power shutdown terminals (7, 8) are in an opened status, the PWM signal shutdown circuits (5, 6) are disconnected to interrupt the PWM signal (4) to the gate driving circuit (11).
