Abstract

 光源1と、入力信号に応じて出射光の進行方向を制御する反射型ライトバルブ9と、光源からの光を照明光として反射型ライトバルブに集光する照明光学系2、3、4、6aと、反射型ライトバルブからの出射光を投写する投写レンズ10と、照明光学系の瞳の位置に配置され光源からの光の一部を遮光する第1絞り7と、投写レンズの瞳の位置に配置され反射型ライトバルブからの出射光の一部を遮光する第2絞り8を備える。照明光のうち反射型ライトバルブの表面により反射された光が投写レンズの瞳に入射する不要光を、第1絞りと第2絞りの組み合わせにより遮光する。第1絞りの遮光領域は、照明光学系の瞳の不要光の範囲に対応する領域を弦方向の線で分割して得られる外周側の分割領域に対応し、第2絞りの遮光領域は、中心側の分割領域に対応する形状及び配置に設定される。投写レンズに入射する不要光を効率良くカットして、高い輝度性能を得る。
