Abstract
A novel mesoporous carbon nitride material of an extremely regular three-dimensional cage type which has a large surface area and large pore volume; and a process for producing the material. The mesoporous carbon nitride material includes a three-dimensional cage type cubic mesoporous structure having space group Im3m. The material can be prepared by a simple polymerization reaction between a nitrogen source such as ethylenediamine and a carbon source such as carbon tetrachloride with the aid of three-dimensional cage type mesoporous silica SBA-16 as a template. In another embodiment, the mesoporous carbon nitride material includes a mesoporous structure having cubic Ia3d symmetry, and the mesoporous structure includes a regular three-dimensional bicontinuous network of large channels which has, in the mesopore walls, micropores through which the channels are interconnected. This material can be produced by a simple polymerization reaction between a nitrogen source such as ethylenediamine and a carbon source such as carbon tetrachloride with the aid of KIT-6, a mesoporous silica, as a template.
