Abstract

The invention relates to a food supplement that can contain at least one amino acid, is otherwise essentially nitrogen-free, and contains at least one alpha-keto acid selected from among the group comprising alpha-ketoisocaproate, alpha-ketoisovalerate, and alpha-keto-beta-methylvalerate, and/or a salt of said alpha-keto acids. The described food supplements help build muscles while relieving metabolism in terms of nitrogen detoxification by reducing the nitrogen supply and improving nitrogen retention in the body.
