Abstract

The disclosed HubPower+ is a PCB with arranged electrical components, sufficient to regulate the incoming and outgoing electrical currents generated by bottle or hub dynamos, commonly used on bicycles to enable secure charging of mobile phones and other small appliances, while the bicycle is being ridden. The HubPower+ prevents damage to the internal electrical circuits of mobile phones and other small appliances by regulating the incoming and outgoing charges to a level that eliminates electrical damage from charging currents that are high or unstable. The HubPower+ is installed in/on a bicycle hub dynamo as a fixture or within the bicycle. The HubPower+ can be installed in/on a hub dynamo and used on/in fitness type machines such as a walking machines

Description

A BICYCLE CHARGER FOR SMALL APPLIANCES
The PedalPower+ is a device to enable the charging of mobile phones and other small appliances, such as digital camera, IPod, LCD display, flashlight, bicycle light PDA, GPS, MP3, MP4, batteries from the electrical charge generated by hub and bottle dynamos commonly used on bicycles. The PedalPower÷ also allows the charging of mobile phones and other small appliances, such as digital camera, IPod, LCD display, flashlight, bicycle light PDA, GPS, MP3, MP4, batteries, from solar power with energy captured from the sun.
Solar mobile phone chargers can traditionally only charge by solar energy and do not have the circuitry contained in the PedalPower+ unit. Without this circuitry any attempt to directly charge a mobile phone or other small appliance from hub or bottle dynamos would cause severe damage to the appliance.
With PedalPower+ attached by cable to a bottle or hub dynamo, the electrical charge generated by a hub or bottle dynamo while riding a bicycle, can safely pass through the PedalPower+ into the optional internal battery and then into the mobile phone or small appliance, thereby charging the mobile phone or small appliance without damaging the internal circuits of the mobile phone or small appliance. If the optional internal battery is not used, the electrical charge generated by a hub or bottle dynamo can safely pass through the PedalPower+ directly into the mobile phone or small appliance thereby charging the mobile phone or small appliance without damaging the internal circuits of the mobile phone or small appliance.
The PedalPower+ can be externally attached to or removed from a bicycle by using a connecting bracket, pouch or instrument console or can be permanently fixed to or within the bicycle frame at manufacture or as a retro fit. The PedalPower+ if fitted to a bicycle internally need not use the solar collecting panel or optional internal battery.
The PedalPower+ when removed from a bicycle can be used as a standard solar mobile phone charger and can be used as such without connection to a bicycle, allowing the use of the PedalPower+ as a solar mobile phone or small appliance charger in situations such as camping, fishing, trekking, leisure activities such as the beach, home and office.

Claims

THE CLAIMS DEFINING THE INVENTION ARE AS FOLLOWS
1. The HubPower+ is a mobile phone and other small appliance charger from the electrical charge obtained from hub dynamos commonly used with bicycles. The enablement of this process is due to specific circuitry on a PCB, regulating the input and output of electrical charges generated by hub dynamos commonly used with bicycles.
2. The HubPower+ as claimed in claim 1 is a PCB with arranged electronic components with sufficient specifications to regulate the incoming and outgoing electrical current from hub dynamos commonly used with bicycles to enable secure charging of mobile phones and other small appliances.
3. The HubPower+ as claimed in claims 1 and 2 can be installed on/in a bicycle hub dynamo or can be installed on/in a bicycle as a permanent fixture on or within the bicycle
4. The HubPower+ as claimed in claims 1,2 and 3, is used as a PCB to regulate the incoming and outgoing electrical current from bottle and hub dynamos commonly used with bicycles, to enable secure charging of mobile phones and other small appliances and/or as a PCB with internal battery.
5. The HubPower+ substantially as herein before described and with reference to drawing 1
