Abstract
It is an object to provide an optical element for an optical pickup device in which two objective lenses are integrally formed to compatibly carry out recording and/or reproducing information for different discs. For that purpose, a first effective diameter outside region (EO1) is shaped to stretch toward the outside of the optical axis with respect to a configuration (shown in a dotted line) defined by extending a first effective diameter inside region (EI1) so as to make an intersecting angle obtuse with respect to a flange unit (FL), and a second effective diameter outside region (EO2) is shaped to pull into the inside of the optical axis with respect to a configuration (shown in a dotted line) defined by extending a second effective diameter inside region (EI2) so as to separate from a first objective lens (OL1). As a result, the formability of an optical element (OE) can be enhanced. Further, if at least one of the first effective diameter outside region (EO1) and the second effective diameter outside region (EO2) is provided with an optical path difference assigning structure, an under or over spherical aberration can be given to a passing light flux.
