Abstract

Disclosed is a polymer film or fiber which can be extended, shrunk and deformed quickly and repeatedly in a (dried) gas such as air, and which has a rate of deformation of 4% or greater. Also disclosed is a polymer actuator using a polymer film which can be extended upon receiving an external stimulus, wherein the polymer film is placed under the condition where the humidity and/or the temperature is controlled. In the polymer actuator, it is preferred to use a polymer film which can be extended by the adsorption/desorption of a water molecule caused by an external stimulus, and the polymer film is preferably placed under the condition where the relative humidity is adjusted to 80 to 100%.
