Abstract

The invention concerns an integrated system of connection to, management and control of information from and/or towards a plurality of communication channels, comprising one or more video and audio interface means (30, 40, 50) towards the user, characterised in that it further comprises: - a connection and management central unit (20), which is able to connect to said plurality of communication channels as well as said interface means (30,40,50) and to control them, - a remote-control device (10) which is able to exchange information remotely with said connection and management central unit (20), said connection and management central unit (20) sending selectively, on said interface means (30,40,50), one or more information received from said plurality of communication channels, on the basis of commands and settings received from said remote control device (10), said the central unit being able to send to said remote-control device (10) one or more notice signals about said one or more received information.

Description

INTEGRATED SYSTEM FOR CONNECTION TO, MANAGEMENT AND CONTROL OF AUDIO, VIDEO AND INTERNET CONTENTS
The present invention concerns an integrated system for connection two, management and control of audio, video and Internet contents.
More in detail, the system according to the invention allows an only access to telephony, television and Internet, as well as a centralised control of the same channels, which allows to combine them according to the needs.
There exists today a growing demand of "triple play" 3G/UMTS functionalities, i.e. functionalities which allow to access audio, video and Internet services.
For these functionalities, the users require ready accessibility, easiness of use and continuity of service. As a consequence, the network operators tend to increase their own investments on use and service equipments.
The rapid evolution of technology and expectations of the users have drastically increased the difficulty to provide wireless communication services in a profitable way. The voice market yields do not support any more the commercial models of the wireless operators and, at the same time, the recent history of these operators has proven that the integrated wireless services for audio, video and data (triple play) can contribute significantly to the sustainable growing of the average revenue per unit (ARPU).
It is object of the present invention to provide a system for managing video, audio and Internet contents which solves the problems and avoids the drawbacks of the prior art.
It is subject-matter of the present invention an integrated system of connection to, management and control of information from and/or towards a plurality of communication channels, comprising one or more video and audio interface means towards the user, characterised in that it further comprises:
- a connection and management central unit, which is able to connect to said plurality of communication channels as well as said interface means and to control them,
- a remote-control device which is able to exchange information remotely with said connection and management central unit, said connection and management central unit sending selectively, on said interface means, one or more information received from said plurality of communication channels, on the basis of commands and settings received from said remote control device, said the central unit being able to send to said remote-control device one or more notice signals about said one or more received information.
Preferably according to the invention, said interface means comprise a television, and said plurality of communication channels comprises the television channel. Preferably according to the invention, said plurality of communication channels comprises the Internet channel.
Preferably according to the invention, said plurality of communication channels comprises the telephonic channel.
Preferably according to the invention, said remote-control device comprises a loudspeaker and a microphone which are able to allow a telephonic communication through said connection and management central unit and said the telephonic channel.
Preferably according to the invention, the acoustic information coming from the telephonic channel are transmitted through the television.
Preferably according to the invention, on said connection and management central unit a microphone is installed for the telephonic communication in the speaker mode.
Preferably according to the invention, television and the telephonic channel are used for video calls.
Preferably according to the invention, on said connection and management central unit a browser is installed.
Preferably according to the invention, on said television, advertising messages are sent, which have been received by one channel of said plurality of communication channels, even different from the television one.
The invention will be now described by way of illustration but not by way of limitation making reference to the figures of the enclosed drawings, wherein figure 1 shows a general scheme of the system according to the invention.
The system according to the invention is an integrated system of telephone, video and Internet communications. Making reference to enclosed figure 1 , the system 100 utilises a multifunctional device or "remote control device" 10 which encloses, inside the functionalities of a TV remote control, a telephone and a PC keyboard, and which could resemble in the appearance very much to a traditional remote-control.
The system 100 according to the invention allows to receive integrated voice, video and data contents for a use of the "consumer" or
"business" type, including the television broadcasting 30 from a broadcasting source, or the data reception 15 from a data network and telephone communications 40 from a telephonic network.
By using the system according to the invention one has a TV remote control which incorporates the functions of telephone and PC keyboard/mouse, as well as a central connection and management unit 20 which, unlike the systems and devices of the prior art, is completely controlled by the remote-control device 10 remotely according to the invention.
The system according to the invention allows the achieving of the following goals:
- easiness of use of the Internet/video/telephony resources; - comfort of use;
- multiple use of the same connection resource (connection and management central unit);
- mode of control and supervision of the utilised resources. The system according to the invention is an innovative product owing to the fact that the contents required by the client are directly manageable by means of the remote-control, i.e. by means of the remote-control device 10, by which the client requires them, further with the possibility of exploiting the resources by centralising the management on an only apparatus (management and connection central unit 20). The available functionalities in the system according to the invention comprise:
- receiving/effecting telephone calls directly;
- using the TV screen 30 as display of telephone 40, and on which therefore for example visualising the data that are present in the list of telephone numbers, reading the received SMS;
- possibility to deviate the voice call on a central connection and management unit 20 and TV 30: this in order to speak comfortably in the speaker mode by using a microphone embedded in the central unit 20 and the loudspeakers of the TV 30;
- with suitable configurations of the system according to the invention, one can make ringing and switching on the TV 30 when a telephone call is arriving;
- possibility to receive advertising with or without audio on the screen of the TV 30 during the telephone calls;
- allowing the navigation in Internet 50 using the keyboard of the remote-control device 10 and the browser of the connection and management central unit 20, which as a matter of fact becomes a small personal computer;
- possibility to receive advertising strips or news during the normal fruition of the TV free broadcasting;
- receiving/effecting video calls with a dedicated window or "picture in picture" (PIP) on the TV 30.
The system according to the invention can also work as device for controlling and signalling events of particular importance, it can therefore have a double functionally:
1) tool of control of the Internet/telephone/TV apparatuses; 2) tool for a better availability of the triple play services.
The system according to the invention does not stop other PC inside the same house from accessing the network as well.
The connection to Internet takes place by means of a key on the remote-control device 10, the Internet contents 50 can be visualised directly on the TV 30: the remote-control device 10, by means of suitable and simple keys, controls and manages the navigation, behaving as an actual computer keyboard.
The system according to the invention can also comprise other enhanced functionalities, as for example those specified in the following.
The system can comprise the parental control, a functionality that allows to identify the effected access to a series of contents that are considered as "risky".
By suitable configuration, one prepares the control system inside the management and connection unit to verify the typologies of contents that are being dealt with on the Internet. For example, at the occurrence of particular conditions that point out "risky" contents, the system according to the invention can send an alarm message to the remote-control device, which emits an acoustic alarm signal immediately.
This functionality is particularly interesting for the control of the Internet accesses of the boys, the parent (which may be in that moment far away from the Internet position of his boy) being informed by his remote-control device, in real-time, as soon as a particular event occurs.
The system can comprise the accesses control as well. With this functionality it is possible to configure "when and for how long time" the Internet navigation is possible.
The remote-control device, as soon as the violation of the access rules occurs, by means of suitable control light, signals that someone in that moment is navigating and is outside of the permitted time band. This could allow to control that in certain hours of the day nobody can have distractions with respect to the predefined objects. For example, during the hours destined to learning, a son can not access Internet, or may after a certain evenings/night time band. The parent, by means of his remote-control device, fas further the possibility to deactivate the access to Internet. The system according to the invention can further manage the firewall. The firewall installed in the management and connection unit signals any virus or information attack timely. The signal is immediately sent on both a PC and the remote-control device in an audio/light way (audio signal with associated light). Directly by using the remote-control device, one will be able to effect voice calls, using it as a most normal mobile phone.
It is particular considerable the interaction that one can have with the TV 30 and therefore the possibility to exploit the graphic potentials of the TV screen 30; by the remote-control device 10 one can, by means of suitable key, visualise the list of telephone numbers on the screen of the TV 30, select the number to be called and exploit the system for the call in the speaker mode (by using the loudspeakers of the TV 30 and a microphone integrated in the connection and management central unit).
The TV screen can also be used for reading SMS, visualising MMS or e-mails.
The system according to the invention, by means of the remote-control device allows choosing video contents to be watched on one's own TV 30. Indeed, the present and future evolution of the video on demand offer will present a more and more rich and varied tv program, and besides, for the access to the Internet, it is always required one or more tools of management and control of the visualised contents. The remote-control device inform in real-time, by means of suitable acoustic/light signalling, the purchase of video contents on demand as soon as specific conditions occurs, which of course have been chosen by the client.
For example, one could need to be informed timely in the case somebody purchases pornographic or violent video contents, or to receive an alarm as soon as particular expensive video contents on demand are being purchased.
The remote-control device is able as well, by talking with the connection and management unit connected to the TV, to control all the TV functionalities, in few words it has the possibility to behave as a classic remote-control.
The system according to the invention allows effecting and receiving video calls towards fixed and mobile network telephones.
Directly from the remote-control device one effects, by means of connection and management unit, the telephone call; the call can be effected by using a telephony operator with which the client has an ongoing contract or by using a different ISP/Carrier.
By using a WebCam installed in the management and connection central unit 20, that can be activated by the remote control device 10, one can effect video calls towards destination of fixed and GSM/UMTS mobile telephony. The management and connection central unit 20, by using its interface, is also able to establish calls sending voice and video contents on IP protocol.
The system according to the invention is able to receive advertising under the form of band, animated strips or video screens.
During the telephonic call on IP protocol, one can receive directly on the screen of the TV 30 advertising from content providers. As soon as the informative content is received, the remote-control device will inform the user, by means of suitable acoustic or light sensor, about the arriving of advertising for him. Such a functionality can be exactly enabled or disabled, directly from the remote-control device 10, and this is for stopping an excessive conditioning of children, boys or particular users.
With the system according to the invention one simplyfies thus the fruition of the audio, video and Internet service through an only connection, which allows exactly to combine them according to the needs, providing thus a powerful tool of connection to the existing networks with all the advantages that this entails in terms of efficiency, quickness, reliability and control. The preferred embodiments have been above described and some modifications of this invention have been suggested, but it should be understood that those skilled in the art can make variations and changes, without so departing from the related scope of protection, as defined by the following claims.

Claims

1. Integrated system of connection to, management and control of information from and/or towards a plurality of communication channels, comprising one or more video and audio interface means (30, 40, 50) towards the user, characterised in that it further comprises:
- a connection and management central unit (20), which is able to connect to said plurality of communication channels as well as said interface means (30,40,50) and to control them,
- a remote-control device (10) which is able to exchange information remotely with said connection and management central unit
(20), said connection and management central unit (20) sending selectively, on said interface means (30,40,50), one or more information received from said plurality of communication channels, on the basis of commands and settings received from said remote control device (10), said the central unit being able to send to said remote-control device (10) one or more notice signals about said one or more received information.
2. System according to claim 1 , characterised in that said interface means comprise a television (30), and said plurality of communication channels comprises the television channel.
3. System according to claim 1 or 2, characterised in that said plurality of communication channels comprises the Internet channel.
4. System according to any claim 1 to 3, characterised in that said plurality of communication channels comprises the telephonic channel.
5. System according to claim 4, characterised in that said remote-control device (10) comprises a loudspeaker and a microphone which are able to allow a telephonic communication through said connection and management central unit (20) and said the telephonic channel.
6. System according to claim 4, when dependent from claim 2, characterised in that the acoustic information coming from the telephonic channel are transmitted through the television.
7. System according to claim 6, characterised in that on said connection and management central unit (20) a microphone is installed for the telephonic communication in the speaker mode.
8. System according to claim 6 or 7, characterised in that television and the telephonic channel are used for video calls.
9. System according to any claim 4 to 8, when dependent from claim 3, characterised in that on said connection and management central unit (20) a browser is installed.
10. System according to any claim 3 to 9, when dependent from claim 2, characterised in that, on said television, advertising messages are sent, which have been received by one channel of said plurality of communication channels, even different from the television one.
