Abstract

The invention relates to a crossbar to be attached at the ends thereof to the frame of an automobile, of the type that comprises a member (6) for linking an intermediate region (8) of the crossbar to the frame of the automobile. In one aspect of the invention, the linking member (6) has a breaking area (20) which breaks in case of a shock to the automobile, the crossbar (10) including a retaining means (28) provided on the linking member (6) for connecting the two portions (22, 24) of the linking member separated by the breaking area (20) after the breaking thereof. The linking member connects the crossbar of a dashboard to a lower crossbar of the bay (10) or to a front wall of the frame of the automobile.
