Abstract
Porous, biocompatible materials are described for a wide variety of applications. The material is a porous polymer comprising polyisobutylene with pores that are formed by the elution of a sacrificial polymer component out of the polymer by a liquid solvent. This porous polymeric material is suitable for medical implant applications as it is biocompatible, permeable, atraumatic, and does not damage adjacent tissue structures. It can also be made compliant such that it stretches as adjacent tissue structures, which increases durability of the polymer. The porous polymeric material is also suitable for other non-medical applications.
