Definitions
- the invention relates to a device for identifying vehicles, of the type used to identify them when they are registered in a vehicle register or when they must comply with a mandatory procedure such as verification of emissions to the environment, registration of imports, payment of tax obligations , etc., which allows identification that is both visually safe and corroborable in a high security system, so that a high degree of certainty can be taken to determine that the vehicle in question has not been changed and remains the same as the one submitted for registration, evaluation or payment of obligations and that the device cannot be falsified or altered in any way, nor can the register or registration system be misleading.
- a vehicle identification means is to be able to link a vehicle given the fulfillment of an obligation, whether it is the registration in a standard, the payment of a tax or the fulfillment of a norm, whose registration It can be contained in a database electronically.
- a vehicle registration by government authorities in which all the vehicles that have paid their taxes for their use are registered, within a specific jurisdiction as well as the registry for the control of the importation of vehicles that are imported from a country to another country, which must pay taxes or tariffs for such importation. Since this type of paperwork involves the payment of taxes (which _ OR -
- license plates or license plates which identify a vehicle both visually and through a registration.
- this also includes labels that adhere to the glass, paper labels and registration documents inside the vehicle, such as a vehicle registration document or an import request.
- this system and means of identification are highly vulnerable to acts of corruption and forgery as well as to changes in the carrier vehicle, since the identification means such as the plates are not permanently fixed while the labels can be easily and economically prepared, the registration system It can be altered by an employee who has sufficient authority.
- Automotive vehicles are also identified with the Serial Number or VIN (English acronym that refers to Vehicle Identification Number).
- VIN number is for worldwide use and is described in the ISO 3779 standard. The purpose of this number is for each vehicle on the planet to have a unique serial number or identification, however it only contains coded data on the manufacture of the vehicle. It is necessary to link this serial number to the vehicle registration. In many cases, with the objective of making money with stolen vehicles, this serial number is physically altered, which is usually printed or stamped on a metal plate attached to the chassis or inside of the vehicle.
- RFID radio frequency transponder
- a hologram is "a three-dimensional image reproduced from an interference produced by a coherent beam divided by radiation (such as a laser): it is the interference pattern itself.
- hologram is used to refer to a two-dimensional "holographic film” which presents an image recorded from a "hologram.”
- a sheet of material that has captured that interference pattern is known as holographic material.
- said label is to identify an object and that said label includes a conventional holographic image of metallic appearance.
- the objective of placing a holographic image on this label is to provide a more attractive appearance and secondly it is to make counterfeiting more difficult.
- the label is infalsificable, which is evident, since, as mentioned, the conventional hologram can be imitated.
- it does not have an easy way for anyone to distinguish it from a simulated hologram directly and without the use of any tools.
- the hologram used is of established parallaxes, it can be imitated and even falsified so that a person cannot distinguish if the label is original and therefore the transponder and the data contained therein are authentic.
- US Patent No. 7,034,688 describes the same type of label using a mechanism of demetalization of a metallic material, to achieve a label containing a transponder and a holographic image.
- it has the same disadvantage as the previously mentioned patent regarding the limitation of its hologram authentication capability.
- the required demetalization process represents a complex manufacturing process for these types of labels.
- This identification element also has another disadvantage because it requires a larger label since the transponder cannot be placed superimposed on the hologram but on one side of it because of interference, which obviously has an impact on manufacturing costs.
- US Patent No. 6,911, 911 discloses to a label without a hologram that if the label is removed from the object and placed with another object, it prevents counterfeiting, since part of the circuit of the transponder sticks to the object and stops working. However, it does not consider that the transponder can be duplicated and falsified, so that an identical label is created and thus it is not necessary to remove it from any other object, but simply to duplicate its electronic characteristics.
- US Patent Application No. 2002/0135481 A1 describes a radiofrequency transponder and a material that cannot be forced or altered, so that the label containing the transponder cannot be removed, transferred, replaced or altered in the object without show signs of having been altered.
- it does not have a visual authentication mechanism, that is, if a label with this type of material is created and applied on an object, it is not known if the label was put by the registry managers or not, that is, it is not known If the label is authentic or not.
- a vehicle identification device that can be placed in one of the interior windows of a vehicle that has a means of visual authentication that is simple and provides absolute security over its legitimacy is highly desirable, so that it is infalsificabie.
- an inviolable registration and control system is required, given the economic implications linked to the vehicle registration, which relates the label to other vehicle identifiers and allows the data to be authenticated with the standard or database and data. Moreover, preferably this system should not compromise the security of the owner's sensitive data.
- the present invention aims to provide an identification device for high reliability vehicles, especially for applications in which it is required to be certain that the vehicle carrying the identification is the registered vehicle for the process or registration associated with said identification, so that it can be visibly arranged in the vehicle and that employs a highly reliable means of authentication that at first sight is fully recognizable as legitimate.
- the invention aims to provide a system for registration and identification of high security vehicles, which cannot be altered or falsified by any person or organized groups.
- an identification device consisting of: an adhesive label that includes a photopolymer with a holographic image or hologram in 3 dimensions of total parallax capacity that allows an inspector or any other person to determine if the label is authentic of fast and visual way; and a radio frequency identification (RFID) transponder of the type that contains a unique, factory-pre-recorded serial number that is unalterable, known as UID (Unique Identifier), with which a device whose authenticity can be known in a way is achieved visual and instantaneous and that it contains unique information about its identity that makes it unalterable, unrepeatable and infalsifiable and information about the vehicle that can be corroborated with a remote database.

- Figure 6 is a flow chart of the control stage of said vehicle registration and control system.
- the identification device for vehicles 1 of the invention is constituted by two main components: a radio frequency identification transponder (RFID) 5 and a photopolymer with a hologram 3.
- RFID radio frequency identification transponder
- the radiofrequency transponder 5 (see figure 2) is formed by an integrated circuit 12 connected to a conductive pattern or antenna 11 which can be printed or mounted together with the integrated circuit 12 to a PET base or substrate (polyethylene terephthalate) 10 or some other non-conductive material of electricity.
- a PET base or substrate polyethylene terephthalate
- the radio frequency integrated circuit 12 that incorporates the transponder 5 is of the type that contains a factory pre-recorded unique serial number, known as UID (Unique Identifier), which is unalterable. This type of transponders is made by various manufacturers.
- a photopolymer with a holographic image or hologram is used in 3 dimensions of total parallax capacity that allows an inspector or any other person determine if the label is authentic quickly and visually, for example that of IZON ® technology manufactured by Dupont Authentication Systems, which also includes in its holographic face a film of a specialized adhesive for adhesion to the glass with UV 2 protection elements.
- Hologram 2 photopolymer of Izon ® technology is a relatively new product on the market, so it is not well known and its composition is relatively secret.
- This element is essential to provide security on the authenticity of the registration of a vehicle, since unlike other materials and technologies, it allows full parallax capacity for the appreciation of a three-dimensional holographic image 13 created in it, so that it cannot be simulated with conventional or typical holograms.
- the type of hologram used in this invention is created by exposing an emulsion in photopolymer 3 and then revealing it, similar to a process of photographic development.
- the hologram technologies known so far only this provides a hologram with the ability to observe the three-dimensional image 13 from any angle.
- the object really presents the 3 dimensions in sight and is not subject to be seen only in the degrees in which the light was exposed to the object when creating the hologram.
- This is one of the main functions provided by the identification device 1 for a secure registration system, since a person observing the tag 1 through the glass of a vehicle can distinguish the three-dimensional image 13 of the hologram from any angle. Moreover, the light that is transmitted in the windshield does not generate any disadvantage for appreciation of the holographic image 13 as with other holograms. The person observing the holographic image 13 can easily determine if the identification device is authentic by only appreciating the 3 dimensions from any parallax that has this image holographic 13, without the need for any tools.
- hologram 3 photopolymer with IZON ® technology Another great advantage of using the hologram 3 photopolymer with IZON ® technology is that it does not generate any interference to the antenna 11 of the transponder 5, so that any frequency of those used for radiofrequency identification can be used, which extends The ability to use different transponders.
- the back part of the photopolymer 3 is provided with a PET film (polyethylene terephthalate) 7, which can be printed with inkjet and its residence time is greater than 10 years.
- This layer is provided with the purpose of protecting the transponder 5 and especially to be able to print on the back data, keys or codes such as the unique serial number of the integrated circuit 12, which provides a further means to verify the authenticity of the identification device. It is preferred to print the serial number of the transponder on the back of said plastic film 7 since although inks with UV coatings are used, the printing will degrade faster if it is directly exposed to sunlight.
- the invention also contemplates providing a process for the elaboration of the identification device for vehicles 1 which is one of the key aspects of the invention, since the characteristics of the materials and the manufacturing conditions are crucial to achieve an effective product, especially in an automated and high quality process.
- the process contemplates initially creating a registration mark on the photopolymer outside the holographic image 13, in order to determine a suitable place to arrange the materials during the transponder assembly, because the material of the holographic photopolymer 3 is of variable tolerances and cannot be assembled in a process Conventional manufacturing of tolerances and fixed measures.
- a first film of a structural adhesive 4 is provided on the rear face of the photopolymer for lamination.
- the transponder 5 is segmented from its delivery means and placed one by one in the correct position of the anterior face of the photopolymer 3 with the help of the registration mark and sufficient pressure is exerted to activate the adhesive 4.
- the transparent PET (polyethylene terephthalate) film 7 is integrated into the transponder on the front face by means of the application of a second structural adhesive film 6.
- the UID of the transponder 5 is read and verified, which is then printed on the PET film 7.
- a transparent PET protective material 9 is integrated that protects the printing of the UID with a transparent structural adhesive 8.
- SRCV 100 is integrated by a set of electronic / computer components that act simultaneously and in accordance to achieve their functions.
- Said system is shown in Figure 4 which is formed by a manufacturing module 101 that has a specialized RFID reading unit 102 by means of which the UIDs of the transponders of the identification device for vehicles 1 of the invention are read; a Central Unit 103 responsible for the administration, control and communications with the other units of the system and other external units that has a data processing unit 104 that stores the information of both the UIDs of the devices of identification as of the vehicles to which they are assigned and performs functions of administration, communication and authentication of information.
- the system has a series of Expedition Units 105 in communication with the central unit 103 and the data processing unit 104, said dispatch units 105 being in charge of corroborating the documentation and information of the vehicle that is presented to be carried out.
- a predetermined process as well as feeding the information of the vehicle to the data processing unit 104 and securing the information in the transponder of the identification device through a series of RFID Reading / Writing Units 106, which store the information in a local data processing unit 107 that is in communication with the unit 104, preferably via electronic communication (internet, private intranet, dedicated links, radio, etc.); a series of Verification Units 108 to carry out periodic, eventual or random inspections of the vehicles to corroborate that have carried out the predetermined procedure, which are provided with at least one Portable RFID Reading Unit 109 to read the information stored in the transponders of the vehicles that inspect, process, validate it locally and transmit it to the Central Unit 103 for additional validations, being in communication with the Central Unit 103 by electronic means (GPS, satellite
- the system also contemplates a collection unit 111 consisting of an external system such as an administrative computer system that has the capacity to store, consult and link data with other computer systems or databases, which is responsible for controlling and charging fees as well as verifying that the vehicles have paid the fees.
- an external system such as an administrative computer system that has the capacity to store, consult and link data with other computer systems or databases, which is responsible for controlling and charging fees as well as verifying that the vehicles have paid the fees.
- an external system such as an administrative computer system that has the capacity to store, consult and link data with other computer systems or databases, which is responsible for controlling and charging fees as well as verifying that the vehicles have paid the fees.
- the registration process begins during the manufacture of the vehicle identification devices 1 that will be used in the SRCV 100.
- the UID number of each device 1 is read by readers Specialized radio frequency 102 for this process (201).
- a protocol or list corresponding to each manufacturing batch is created.
- This information is automatically fed to the data processing unit 104 (202) of the Central Unit 103 and at this point it starts the control of each device 1.
- the System automatically selects the number of UIDs required and assigns them to the Expedition Unit in question (203). At this time it is ensured that these labels cannot be used more than in said module.
- the Central Unit 103 sends the Supervisory Unit 111, through electronic means of communication, the packages of UIDs assigned to the given Expedition Unit (204); Thus, when a processing authorization is requested from the Supervisory Unit 111 - process explained below - it will have the UIDs and will be able to perform the validations.
- the Unit Collector 111 reviews the information of the interested party and in case everything is in order, he authorizes the procedure. Likewise, in cases where there is a necessary payment for the procedure, it directs the interested party to make said payment and records it (205). Subsequently the interested party appears in the Unit of
- the necessary data for the predetermined procedure (206) are captured, including those that are to be stored in the vehicle identification device 1.
- a folio number or key of the procedure is assigned or operation and an identification device 1 is designated, whose unique identification number (UID) is related and linked to the specific vehicle and procedure (207). From this moment, the operation is related to a specific UID.
- UID unique identification number
- a request for processing authorization (208) is sent through electronic means of communication, both to Central Unit 103 and to Collection Unit 111.
- Central Unit 103 and Collection Unit 111 perform the following verifications (209) that the UID is a valid number of the group of UID numbers designated for that procedure; that the UID can be used by the number validated for that specific Expedition Unit 105; and where appropriate, that the corresponding payment is registered. If the validation is positive, the Central Unit 103 and / or the Collection Unit 111 sends a response authorizing the procedure to the Expedition Unit 105 together with an authorization number (210). If the authorization is negative, the label may not be issued since it does not correspond to a label Authentic and controlled by the respective entity or it is not a label assigned to be used in that procedure or Expedition Module (211).
- the device assigned to that procedure is physically placed in a Radio Frequency reader / writer 106 and the system validates that the UID of said device is effectively the one authorized and corresponding to the operation. If so, it proceeds to store the information in the device (212) itself that includes at least: Code or number of the Shipping Module, Code or number of the type of procedure, Vehicle Serial Number or VIN, registration number in case if it already exists, folio and date of the procedure and authorization number. In addition, other data such as particular characteristics of the vehicle, names and keys of operators, amounts of contributions, electronic acknowledgments, etc. can be captured. For the storage of the information, it is digitally signed by specialized algorithms for this purpose and a scheme of private and public keys.
- This digital signature always refers to the UID of the device, which guarantees the authenticity of origin of information since in a subsequent inspection it will be possible to know if the information was stored by a Module Valid issuance and correspondence of the information stored with the specific label and therefore with the vehicle for which the procedure was derived from the information.
- the information is stored in the different memory locations of the transponder circuit and these locations are permanently "blocked" (213) so that they can never be deleted, overwritten or altered.
- This procedure is an indispensable part of the security of the SRCV since in order to falsify the electronic portion of the label, adding a transponder with a unique serial number, it would be necessary to decipher the encryption and digital signature keys used to store the information, otherwise in a Review in Inspection Unit 108, it would be known that the information is not valid. Moreover, the valid information cannot be cloned, transferring the signature to an invalid transponder because the signature, as mentioned, always refers to the UID of the label and therefore in a review the inspection module would indicate that the signature (that if it was valid for the original tag) is not valid for the cloned tag.
- the documents related to the procedure (214), such as the registration card, are printed and the UID of the label of that operation is printed on them.
- the system of the invention provides a means of safeguarding the information, which avoids the alteration or falsification of the process.
- the documents are delivered and the label is placed on a glass of the vehicle (215).
- the Expedition Unit 105 records all the information of the operation in the database of the SRSV System and also sends, by electronic means of communication, a copy of this record to the Collection Unit 111 (216).
- the database of the entity's system now has a record of the operation with all the complete information, this being the end of the registration process
- an inspection can be carried out to verify the authenticity and legality of the registration of said vehicle.
- the inspector follows the following steps: First verify the authenticity of the label, (301). reviewing the three-dimensional image of the hologram of IZON technology. If both the total parallax of the three-dimensional object as well as the other authentication elements can be appreciated, it means that the label is authentic (302).
- This first step means that vehicles that do not have a hologram with these characteristics are immediately detected as vehicles that have not complied with the predetermined procedure.
- the vehicle does not have the authentic label, it will be subject to the sanction that marks the corresponding law for the predetermined procedure.
- a radiofrequency reader 109 that houses the Inspection Unit 108 of the SRSV, interrogates the transponder (303), that is, reads the information stored through the glass.
- This information includes at least the serial number of the vehicle or VIN, the UID number of the transponder, the folio number of the register, as well as any other useful information such as Inspection Unit 108, validates the information locally (304) without the need for communication to the Central Unit 103. This is carried out by means of the authentication of the digital signature and encryption using the corresponding keys so that if there is no correspondence, the information is not authentic and therefore the registration is invalid.
- the reviewer compares the VIN data obtained with the physical VIN of the vehicle to ensure that it is the same, so that if they do not match, he will immediately know that there is an anomaly in the registry (305). Subsequently, it compares the folio number data against that contained in the registration document (306), in case they are not Likewise, it is detected that the record has been altered. Finally, check that the data of the unique identification number corresponds to the one printed on the back of the label (307). If any of these correspondences between numbers does not match, it is detected that the record has been altered or falsified (308).
- the Inspection Unit 108 sends, through electronic means of communication (311), the UID of the identification device for the vehicle interrogated to the Central Unit 103. It receives and uses it as a key to extract more updated information on the procedure (312), the vehicle, the owner and any other relevant data for the vehicle or the predetermined procedure. It is noted that the main importance of this information is that it is constantly updated indicating the actual status of the vehicle at that time.
- the Central Unit 103 sends (313) a response to the Inspection Unit 108 containing said information and the inspector can know at that time any anomaly related to the vehicle such as theft status, violations of the law, current owner, payments of contributions subsequent to the issuance of the label, etc. With this information, the inspector determines the situation of the vehicle and if necessary takes legal measures established for the predetermined procedure (314). Completing this Inspection process.
